To very little surprise, the CW has cancelled one of its few remaining sitcoms, The Game. Is this the end for the series or could it still return?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of Akil’s long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez and Wendy Raquel Robinson.
The first sitcom to debut on the CW network, The Game averaged 2.3 million viewers in season one. For season two, the ratings dropped to 2.07 million and a .96 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This season, it’s fallen to an average of 1.68 million viewers and a tiny 0.7 rating in the demo, in part because it was given a Friday night timeslot.
The CW is essentially getting out of the sitcom business and has cancelled The Game after 64 episodes. There had been talks about changing the show’s format to an hour-long dramady, to make it more compatible with the network’s other programming. That was seen as a long-shot at best and actually would have created its own set of challenges for syndication.
Though The Game only has 64 episodes, BET recently signed a syndication deal to air the first two seasons and season three will be added this Fall. To increase the show’s number of episodes, there have been discussions between the cable channel and CBS (the show’s studio) about co-funding original episodes. The deal would likely come with some cost-cutting measures.
There’s been no further word on the potential deal with BET so, as of right now, “The Wedding Episode” is the series’ last.

I’m not satisfied with it ending like that because even though they got married the other cast memberes still haven’t closed any chapters. so i think that the show should be rescued and moved to bet.
I really hope it comes back! I was happy how it ended with Melanie and Derwin but I hated how they ended it with Jason and Kelly! Seems like there was a lot left unsaid! Come on BET!!!
I really hope this show comes back whether it’s on CW or BET. I’d really like to know why it was cancelled, this is a GREAT show!!! How does 90210 and Gossip Girl manage to stay in the line-up? Changing the day that the show airs to Friday was sure to kill the ratings. THANKS FOR NOTHING. NO MORE CW FOR ME!
I was a big fan of Girlfriends now The Game. BET let’s do this. I gotta know what happens with Kelly and Jason, Tasha and Rick, Malik and who ever he’s meant to be with. Please come back with season 4!!!!!!!

I liked the finale but only for the season I really don’t want the series to end like that because there is so much more I want to see!!! Come on BET!!!!!
I would love for the show to come back for a Season 4 because there is so much that needs to be finished. Kelly and Jason and Tasha and Rick. Will these two couples come to some kind of understand and work it out? Will Malik ever settled down? Even though Darwin accepted the baby it the baby really his? All these are questions that the public wants to kow so why keep us hanging. BRING IT BACK PLEASE!!!!
i think the show should come back because i want to know what happens between derwin, janay and melanie and the baby. i think somehow melanie is gonna jack everything up like she always does. lmao and i reallllllly want jason and kelly to get back together, because even though she was crazy, she was a good wife. and tasha and rick fox, yea i was happy for her. theres alot that they can do with the show. even though sometimes i hated that some episodes of the show seemed to be filler. like there really wasnt anything going on. but. none the less i want the game to come back. definitly.

I agree. We want to see what happens with the rest of the gang and how the marriage is working out with the new baby.
I don’t care if CW or BET takes it on I just want to see it on again and at a reasonable time. I don’t know what time it played everywhere else but where I stay it played at 7 o’clock and it came around 2 fast 8 o’clock would have been great.
