We’ve all seen the classic Gilligan’s Island sitcom which tells the tale of seven silly shipwrecked castaways as they try to escape thie “tropic island nest.” Now, think about living that misadventure for real, as a Survivor-style competition.
The Real Gilligan’s Island takes two complete sets of castaways and pits them against one another. Two real-life skippers, first mates, millionaire couples, movie stars, farm girls and professors all compete to be the only castaway of his/her kind on the island. Once a series of elimination challenges have whittled the castaways down to one set, the remaining contestants compete against one another to be rescued and win the grand prize.
The reality show ran for two seasons on TBS before being deep-sixed, uh, cancelled. The series finale aired on July 29, 2005. At the start of the last episode, five castaways are still in the game and must compete in four more challenges.
