The Revolution: Poor Ratings Debut

Revolution ratingsOn Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.

Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.

For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.

While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.

Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.

What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

The Chew and The Revolution are horrible shows. We have enough food channels and watching people transform from fat to thin. These are the worst shows I have ever seen. It makes me want to throw up. I want to see the soaps back on. Need to see a story line and great actors, not reality shows. Terrible, Terrible.. Put those self help advisors on Dr. Phil or some place else!!!

I watched The revolution, and I have to say that their are great hosts on this show. I not a person that watchs soaps, in the past, but Who has time really to watch soaps everyday. I like the revolution, but I think its missing something. It does focus on some “hero” which seem to be all women, its okay, i like the 5 day reveal of progress, but I also Like to here more from Ty He was the makeover home edition.

I mean, really? Why would the daytime audience want to watch lifestyle shows on any of the big three networks like ABC/D when there’s Food Network, Cooking Channel, etc on cable? Thinking that they could replace the soap genre with a programming format that’s already over-saturated on cable was crazy on the network execs’ part. If they are going the abandon soaps all together, sale the broadcast rights to GH to NBC or CBS so soap fans can tune ABC/D out all together. And, no, Katie Couric is not going make me turn back at 2:00 p.m., when I can watch a soap scheduled at the same time period on NBC or CBS.

Horrible shows the Chew and Revolution. Big mistake canceling One Life to Live. The producers should consider bringing it back before it is too late.

My husband and I were eating lunch when the discussion of “snot” came up. The TV went off! Thats the last of “The Revolution in our home”. TV is getting more offensive than we care to watch, or hear. Is it worth losing your audience to be able to show your ignorance and lack of class to the public?? Disgusting, and repulsive!!
I resent producers of daytime programming deciding that its ok to shove certain gross topics in our faces. Yes the TV went off, but after we were sickened by such a crude subject.

Watched the Revolution for the first time Monday Feb. 6th. I didn’t watch more then about 10 minutes, that was the most disgusting 10 minutes of TV I have ever seen for a talk show! A container of liquid to represent snot? Disgusting and gross, I will never watch that show again and told my friends how stupid and gross it is and to not watch it.

I presume ABC thinks since women are at work, few watch the soaps anymore. Well they couldn’t be more mistaken! Even my Mom would record the shows and watch them on the weekend and share them with ppl at work. Fools, the lot of them! Bring back OUR shows and get rid of YOUR MGMT ABC!!!!!!!!

I don’t know what it will take for ABC to correct their short-sighted view.Bring back our soaps ! There is a revolution going on..it’s the people against the BIG Network ! We will boycott your network and any stupid show you put in place. When you have to pay people in the audience $30.oo to sit there, there is a BIG problem! We will prevail in our efforts with the social networks and persistence .

ABC what ELSE does it take for you to realize you SCREWED UP??? Everyone knows, including you, that your two crappy replacement shows have failed ALREADY…it just needs to get in YOUR thick sculled heads that you screwed up so just gag, admit it and get it over with!! The sponsors of the two replacement shows are NOT going to bring in what the sponsors of the two soaps did. So even though they may be CHEAPER to produce..they are NOT going to put any extra money in your pockets because there are SOOOOOOOO many LESS people viewing them than the soaps!! And oh yeah….as for me….and hundreds of others…..all ABC does now is take up useless space on our TV guides! (Especially when all the others hear you’re planning to throw General Hospital in the toilet too !!! )
