I thought the ending fit very well. It left the audience with numerous thoughts of how the Soprano's show may have ended. The immediate family never gets killed and that was what the show was about. It was a family drama portraying the mob life in New Jersey. I really hope to see some more projects in the future with a Sopranos character and maybe even a continuation of some sort. Love the show! Love the ending!

What an episode it took three days to come to terms with it and accept that it was in fact a good final repisode ableit frustrating as hell. I love every episode (pine barrons most) right to the last bell ringing scene

the last episode of Sopranos was broadcasted in Australia tonight.
I think the last scene was very much calculated and the fact that it didn't have a proper ending made it the only unpredictable scene possible for a show like Soprano's. It was brilliant! perfect ending.

Tony,Carmela and AJ get whacked by the "Members Only" hit man.Tony gave a perverted "Last Rights" when he passed the onion rings.Meadow is spared by her own delay in parking, to lead a positive life."It goes on and on", as sung by Steve Perry, when gang members arrive in the Restaurant to take over the turf now that Tony is out of the picture.

Not bad, in a way I hated it but I also loved it. But I do agree it was the most perfect imperfect ending there could possibly be.

Sopranos either way was history in the making. The next crack in the street, persay. But all an all the show was overall the most enjoyable hour spent in front of a tv. Even if the last episode sucked you forget the hundred that came before it. At the end You start looking at when it all began. It was a modern day davinci painting. In the minds of those who let it. -Butta

In reference to what BayareazFinezzt said. I also agree that Tony indeed got whacked by the black guy (one in black hoodie, with white t-shirt). The reason why I believe so is ......If you go back and watch the end again and look REALLY close, when Meadow comes in the diner you can see a reflection on the mini juke box on the table (left side by Tony). The reflection IS the black guy with his hood up and you can see a light in the background which is the bathroom light. Above the guys head in the reflection is the diamond shape on the bathroom wall. When the guy sitting at the bar goes to the bathroom you can see it on the wall for a split second, and you can also see it when Tony first sits down by himself reading the menu. So in my opinion I believe that Tony was shot and killed by the black guy ... Re-watch the ending and pause it, right before the screen turns blank. Look real close throughout the diner scene and see how the reflections change in the juke box.

okay u gotta watch the end of the episode again and watch closely...here is wat ul c...when tony walks into the diner he looks at himself sitting down at the table...u can be sure of this b/c he is wearing different clothes when he sits down...i dont no wtf that means...in previous seasons it had been told to us that tony's dad died just as his daughter (janus) walked in...if u wach closely u will see janus walk in shortly after tony sits down...this is used to signify the possibility of that happening again...then u will c the sports store owner who tony destroyed walk in wearing a brown kinda hunting jacket...he is the guy that a couple seasons ago got into gambling trouble with tony and tony took over his store...HE IS THE 1 WHO WACKS TONY...he comes in and sits down hunched over...hiding his eyes as not wanting to be noticed...and alas..."u probly dont even here it when it happens rite?" (this is bobby talking to tony in the 1st episode of the season...tony had! this flashback as he was laying down in the last episode...there would be no reason to have had that in unless it had some huge significance)...and finally...tonys daughter walking in to c her dad get shot just as janus did so many years ago...u hear the bell of her walking in and then blackness...nuthing...it signifies the neverending cycle of the soprano family...aj will become tony...meadow will become janus...carmela will become livia (tonys mom)...and cycle of violence goes on and on and on....absolutlely amazing...i HATED the ending at first...but when i wached it again...and understood it...it is really the most amazing ending possible for the show...we really would not have been satisfied with the boring u c tony get shot ending...this was priceless...remember..this was not an action show...it was a drama about a FAMILY.... the whole episode is a flashbackk ; when u see tony sleeping in the beginning of the episode he doesnt really wake upp ; it's alll a flashback the whole episode. also notice how aj has a therapist similar to one tony had 7 yrs ago and still saw her up until the last 2 episodes.. AJ IS THE NEW TONY SOPRANO GUYS !!! AND there WILL b a movie that`ll be at least 3 hours long. kthanks hope this helps. !

I reacted like many others, first confusion, then anger, then I laughed. I thought that last scene was great. It showed how easily our emotions can be manipulated by a show, if we are emotionally invested in the characters. And only a show that has excellent writing could have so many viewers emotionally invested. The hostility of some posters demonstrates that attachment.

Nonetheless, after hearing about the theory of Tony being wacked (I don't want to take credit for putting the pieces together), I have to say there is compelling evidence. Whether Chase left it ambiguous so that a movie could still be possible, I don't know. But I think at least in writing the ending, he intended to imply Tony was killed. The flashback to the talk with Bobby, the lack of music with the credits (never done before), and the repeated use of flipping to Tony's perspective everytime someone came into the diner (for the last entrant, Tony saw nothing because he was killed) together provide a compelling argument. Although a shootout would have certainly been exhilirating, I think this ending fits the show and I am quite happy with it.

I do have to say that generally I think the writing went down hill after the first 3 seasons, too many red herrings.

It was the best ending of any series I can ever remember. Either Tony got whacked or the viewers got whacked. However you interpret it, it was chilling to think how easy death from a bullet can come. We've been seeing people killed every episode for years, this one actually put us in their shoes. Brilliant.

What a shame to lose Rome, Deadwood and now the Sopranos. HBO you are the loser on all of these shows. They were the only reason to be home on Sunday evening. I don't get it--I now am freed up on Sunday night---Thanks for nothing.

You people are crazy defending that stupid ass ending. I'm sorry, did Godfather and Goodfella's have stupid endings like that. I don't care what anyone thinks but that ending was bull sh*t and unless you see it, all the speculation doesn't mean sh*t.
I agree whoever green lighted that ending should get whacked and I'd personally like to break his nose. I'm an angry Italian American because that was just stupid and the fans deserve more. And I don't believe that was from Tony's point of view by the way, whoever said that earlier. Please stop saying Tony got whacked, anyone saying that is as retarded as the writers of that scene.

I'm pissed and angry.

I think it was a brilliant ending and one of the best TV shows on tv, but yes I think Tony didn't hear it coming.

Our local newspaper touted the upcoming finale as "The Mother of all Cliffhangers". I thought about that afterwards and I do believe they nailed it with that definition. But I must admit, it took awhile for the "WTF??" effect to disappear after the ending.

I thought something was wrong
with my TV. It was different,
a little weird, sort of a let
down but....maybe an opening
for a offtake or a semi-sorta
reunion. However, The Sopranos
has been a great excuse to get
HBO...nothing else was worthy!!! Carmella is my hero!!!!!!Always a lady.

Very Very disappointed in the final episode. Not worth the wait for the final show. They sure could of made the last show more effective.. something worth talking about and remembering.. Poor writers who must of been brain dead.

I really liked the last few seconds. Perfect perfect perfect. Tony lives to see another day, he's the big boss now, the fair and feared leader of New Jersey and New York. Of course, Chase reminds us that death could be walking through the door...leaving the men's room...or driving along a busy street. Awesome ending.

Since I live in the Netherlands and have to follow the series via the Internet I just tune in into this discussion. I seriously downloaded the series a few times over to see if something went wrong with the file. But no... this is the end and this is how it sucks! Thanks.... guys don't expect a movie anymore, the actors are tired and nothing is being planned at the moment anyways. You expect them all come together (the ones who still live) to make a movie... NO WAY. This is it... :(

The finale was actually pretty decent. You have to really pay attention to the details of the shows or you miss things. Like the end, cuts to a black scene, completely quiet, no music, no background sound, no... anything. And then the credits.

A few episodes ago there was a comment in one of the scenes "when you die, it all goes silent" - could the black screen and silence be Tony dieing? The family dieing? Was it all left up in the air for a movie?

It's all up to your interpretation. I was disappointed at first, I'm not sure I'm disappointed now. I'll be watching this last season again from the beginning over the next couple of weeks to see what else I can pick out of it.

I hope we're going to see a movie... I have hopes set very high for one and if there is one my expectations are of something in line with Godfather 1 and 2.

Okay, everybody above... Chill out and stop booing & hissing about how it was such a horrible series finale episode. I agree it left us all hanging. But, c'mon, of course David Chase (BTW, it's NOT HBO's creation or writing) could have done a better job. Proof is we've all been watching this show for years because Chase proved his skill at creating the Sopranos, the best show on TV ever, and keeping it up for nine seasons. That's why we watched it right up until last night! Have y'all thought that perhaps this "loose-ends" type of ending is to reserve the possibility of a future movie... where the true ending happens? Or if THIS was the true ending then use your imagination: First, notice how Tony was way too relaxed (not very aware of those suspicious-looking guys walking into Holsten's diner). Once Meadow walked in, now his entire family-- in public, in ONE place-- is vulnerable. Sitting ducks! So, yeah, they all could have been easily whacked. Did David have to actually show us the gory details?! Would we have wanted to see the four of them actually killed?! We're already going to miss them, maybe actually seeing them be "offed" (versus that blank screen for 20 seconds, where you use your imagination) would have been too traumatic. Let's just see what happens in the year or two that follows.

The ending of 86 left me speechless for quite a while. It was as stunning as a bullet to the head which is I think as Chase intended it to be: shocking and all over in a nano second. This is how it is to live in Tony's shoes. I thought it was brilliant. It would have been easier to kill Tony off than devise this ending. We were left with staring at this family as it slowly gathered pretending to be normal while danger lurked all around them. It is simply the way these people live. It made me want to jump out of my own skin….intolerable for most of us. The writing was simply brilliant.

Actually I have to disagree with many of you. The ending does indeed leaving you hanging and that the beauty of it. Nice clean, tidy, and expected endings aren't the reality of the world we live in so why should an HBO drama end any different. The ending makes you think and makes you angry at the same time. I do however have to agree that with the ending of Oz, Rome and now the Sopranos there is very little reason to stay with HBO.

I thought something was wrong with my cable at the end I really thought when the guy from the counter got up to go to the bathroom something was going to happen and then when the two guys came in before Meadow I thought something was going to happen and then when the bell rang and Meadow came in the screen went black so what did happen did they all get shot or all they all alive I don't like the way this ended. It could have been better. Very upset.

I thought something was wrong with my cable at the end I really thought when the guy from the counter got up to go to the bathroom something was going to happen and then when the two guys came in before Meadow I thought something was going to happen and then when the bell rang and Meadow came in the screen went black so what did happen did they all get shot or all they all alive I don’t like the way this ended.
I liked the ending; it was very thought-provoking. Tony said earlier that you don't realize when it's coming, and I think that's exactly what happened. He and his family were finally acting normal and getting along, they were out for a nice dinner, Phil was off Tony's chest, and BANG. When he died, the show did too -- no picture, no sound. The empty screen was very indicative of his death. Awesome job, HBO!

A brilliant ending to a brilliant series. The ending was not predictable and left everyone giving their own interpretation. David Chase left it wide open. If HBO falls by the wayside...maybe they will come back with The Sopranos-The Later Years.

Thanks Mr. Chase for a thrilling, unpredictable ride the last 7 years. Also, for that perfect, "imperfect" ending. The last episode gave the fans the final call for Tony Soprano...to make their own ending, however perfect & neat we think it should be, or not be. Now that the shock is over, I truly thought it was an honest, worthy finale!

Okay, so Phil gets wacked. Good. And the show ties up a few loose ends about the family with the son and daughter. Son is going to be fine and eventually have his own club. Cool, but what is going to happen to Tony? Is he going to prison? What's going on, The show left all the fans up and hanging. The daughter doesn't even get into the diner, and then cut black screen and no music. Every episode there is music at the credits. So is there a movie in the making?

If I wanted to use my own imagination I just wouldn't watch tv at all. I would just sit around and imagine my own shows in my head. I feel totally let down by the ending.

What kind od sh*t was this? All of the buiiding up from the other episodes to the final episode. Yes, Journey was played " Don`t stop believing" So, should we the audience "keep beleieving " that some type of Sopranos will go on, maybe a movie or another tv show???
Get your act together..

Will someone be kind enough to recap the entire episode? We lost power on my block, (due to severe storms), approximately 2-3 minutes into the episode.

What the ...???? Did the writers leave early that day?? What sort of ending was that. What a waste of my time and the show.

Some should get "wacked" for giving the green light to that ending.

I was disappointed at first too. Then I realized what David Chase wanted us to do: for the last few minutes, I was on edge. Every time someone walked in the restaurant, I would think "So - is THIS the guy that's gonna kill Tony?" Admit it, you did too. Bottom line, this is how Tony lives his life every moment, and we just got a small taste of it. We're on the edge because it was the finale. Tony has to deal with this every day of his life. David Chase left us with the parting gift of a glimpse into the mind of Tony Soprano. Love it or hate it, now you know how he feels.

I think it's plain that Tony got whacked. Since the series has been his story it only makes sense when he dies everything goes black and silent. The End.

I agree the ending was awful. Buthow is it HBO's fault? It's not like they have creative input over these shows. If there's anyone to blame it's got to be David Chase. He should have kept his writing credits limited to the pilot episode.

Chase is definetely setting The Sopranos up for a movie. The ending was too vague, and we've never even seen the family in that restaurant before. There's so many suspicious characters that could start shooting them up. According to some viewers, they see Meadow walk thru the door behind the 2 black guys. The camera is Tony's perspective. Then it goes blank. The last thing I saw/heard was the bell above the door, tony looking towards the door and "Don't Stop" from Journey's Don't stop believing.

Hopefully we start seeing trailers for the movie this year. If we don't, buh-bye Sopranos.

I cannot believe this ending. Dunno if it was a hint towards the "you don't even hear it" dialogue with Bobby, that was rerun as Tony's flashback in the second to last episode. I think after 7 years no one could agree on the visual of the last seconds, so lets go blank. Found it quite disappointing.

I waited for the final episode with baited breath, what a waste!! I have a four hour surgery tomorrow and am now looking forward to that more than watching one more episode of the Soprano's. Shame on you HBO, what did you run out of imagination?
Bada Bing! Go Whack yourself!

The absolute worst series finale EVER. The producers should be whacked! They sold out. Maybe the ending will come in the form of a big screen movie we can pay to go see. As a fan, I feel used. Guess I'll cancel HBO now, before I get too into Big Love.

Seriously, horrible series finale. Among the worst I've seen. Does HBO think they did a good job with that ending? I'd like a explanation from HBO on why they couldn't have come up with something better, maybe even more entertaining. Boo HBO, Boo.

Time for ME to whack myself. That ending left me with the worst case of blue balls I have ever had. That makes me not want to buy the dvd set. But I probably will. Bad idea from the editors. Thanks for nothing.
