TV Land has renewed The Soul Man for a third season. The cable channel has ordered just eight episodes this time around.
Dateline reports that the renewal comes as a result of the sitcom being so popular with African-American viewers. “We’re so proud to have this show in our portfolio of sitcoms,” said TV Land president Larry W. Jones. “Fans of The Soul Man are the drivers behind the success of the series. Because of their passion, we are able to continuously bring new viewers to the channel.”
The Soul Man stars Cedric The Entertainer as a former Las Vegas headliner who decides to become a minister and relocates his family to his hometow of St. Louis. The comedy also stars Niecy Nash, Wesley Jonathan, Jazz Raycole, and John Beasley.
