The White Queen: “Cancelled” by BBC, No Season Two

The White Queen canceled, no season twoEven though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.

Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.

The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.

According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.

It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”

What do you think? Are you sorry that The White Queen won’t be continuing in some form? Are you glad that the story was designed to wrap after 10 episodes?

I’m so upset about this! I loved this show! since I do not come from the UK, i was not aware that there would only be one season… So upsetting that i’ve watched this all the while thinking there would be a season 2, 3 and maybe 4… Too bad!

Noooooo please continue the series!!! I was hoping to see a season 2 of The White Queen. I watched every episode 5 times so i could understand each actors roll. It was so educational to understand English History who was who and why things were done in those days. It was absolutely incredible and amazing which left me in awe in each episode I watched. English history dates back much further than one could expect and there is alot people do not know so it is a very learning experience to say the least. So please reconsider the world of fans would love to see a continuance of series of The White Queen. Sincerely, A fan**

Love the season. Bring it back. Please continue with seasons 2,3, 4 etc. Watched each episode several times to keep all the characters and plots straight. Please rethink about cancelling the series.

Loved the series. Refreshing to see a quality historical show, unlike others on TV now. Just a bit of “tweaking” the truth instead of outlandishly flattening it. Yes, the series can end here but I wish they would continue it to finish off WHITE PRINCESS. No one has really depicted the life and times of Princess Elizabeth. And Margaret Beaufort really comes into her own during her son’s reign.

Um… I thought the whole point was “White Queen” was a mini series, not a full fledged show. Why would there be a second season? I’m confused as to why everyone is upset… It was a great mini-series, and now it’s done.

In my opinion, I think the white queen could still put out 2 more really good seasons, but instead of calling the next season the white queen, call it the red queen. I feel like some things weren’t tied up in the white queen. For example, it never told us who killed the princes in the tower and it never got into whom the red queen was. Of course the book could explain this better but I haven’t read it.

I agree with you, there should be a second season. but i should follow princess Elizabeth as she takes the throne and Henry Tudors wife, which in the book series is called the white princess. But just to inform you, the reason you never found out who “killed” the boys is because historically no one knows what happened to them. Is it assumed that Richard had them murdered the day after his coronation but no historian knows this for a fact. it was never documented what happened to them.

If you watched the final episode it was lady Margret who had the the boys murdered. She did it to insure her son that much closer to be the heir of the throne. I was very much surprized and did not see it coming. Watch the final episode again you will see.

This is my second time and it won’t be the last. Show must go on. In my opinion the series was a work of success , when u keep ur audience eagered and excited to see more from one week to another is a big thing. I grew to love all the characters in the series, and even more the English history. I do hope there will be a season two, and I’m sure it will be just as exciting and passionate as the one before. Plzzzzzz and I say plzzzzz for season two.
