The White Queen: “Cancelled” by BBC, No Season Two

The White Queen canceled, no season twoEven though Starz just premiered their new TV series, The White Queen, we already know there won’t be a second season.

Based on Philippa Gregory’s bestselling historical novel series The Cousin’s War, The White Queen tells the story of three very different women as they attempt to scheme, manipulate and seduce their way onto the English throne. The cast includes Max Irons, James Frain, Rebecca Ferguson, Janet McTeer, Ben Lamb, Amanda Hale, Tom McKay, Aneurin Barnard, David Oakes, Faye Marsay, and Eleanor Tomlinson.

The show is co-financed by the BBC in the United Kingdom and Starz here in the states. The 10-part series began airing on BBC1 in June and completed its run last Sunday night.

According to Broadcast Now, the BBC has maintained that The White Queen was intended to run just one season. However, Gregory had hinted that there were hopes to continue the drama via an adaptation of The White Princess. That novel follows the story of Elizabeth of York who went on to marry Henry VII, the first Tudor King.

It now appears that a continuation won’t be happening. A BBC spokesperson said, “The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series.”

What do you think? Are you sorry that The White Queen won’t be continuing in some form? Are you glad that the story was designed to wrap after 10 episodes?

I love this show and am so sad it won’t be continuing! I only ordered starz because I was so intrigued by this show and wow was it worth it! If there is no season two though I will probably cancel starz. No reason to keep it. I really wish they would re-consider, I solely keep other channels like HBO and Showtime because of the shows they’ve created, if the White Queen continued I would’ve kept Starz also.

Starz drives me nuts! We pay extra for the station and they are always getting you hooked onto a show then canceling it. It stinks that you never end up knowing what has come of Elizabeth and the remaining kids also.

This is not a good decision. This show was amazing and I was so looking forward to a continuation. I hope they rethink this. Good television is becoming very rare and this was truly good television.

The White Queen is another show along with Copper (BBCA) that should not be cancelled. I just don’t get it. After many years of terrible TV programming, there seemed to be a new, improved product emerging with shows like The White Queen. Guess I was mistaken so now I will cancel Starz because it is no longer needed in my house. The allegation that The White Queen was never intended to be more than a one season wonder/show is absurd! Is this the era of deliberately destroying shows that are loved by the public and want to see more? I don’t think so! Starz/BBC, take down your wall of B.S. and continue this show. Thank you.

This is one of the biggest mistakes you probably ever made. White Queen is the reason I order STARZ. I check the TV guide every Saturday just to see when the new series will start. I am very disappointed that you have us fall in love with this novel/tv series and than snatch it away. Please reconsider and bless us with season 2

I am very disappointed! The White Queen was my favorite show. I will be cancelling my subscription to STARZ….no need to continue. If they proceed with developing the White Princess, I would re-consider. This is definitely a series worth renewing!

Clearly bbc is making a big mistake why no season 2. What’s the point of evening airing the show if it was going to be like this. I believe you show return the white queen series give it a chance. Like look at the show walking dead they only made one season to see how it will work out the rating where not that high but now its one of the top shows. So why would u know if the white queen won’t be one of those shows if there’s only one series.

Clearly a bad decision made by the BBC.
One show that is truly worth airing but instead they
Will prefer to replace the era of good TV with a cheap reality
TV. Truly a disgrace. Not worth to watch TV anymore. It
Cost more to watch TV today then the show themselves.
