After months of anticipation, FOX unveiled the US version of The X Factor last night. With a reunion of former American Idol judges and Paula Abdul, the network was hoping to get some American Idol-like numbers for their fall season. They were no doubt disappointed.
While The X Factor had a very positive debut, the ratings were less than half of last spring’s Idol kickoff. Based on the fast affiliate numbers, X Factor garnered a 4.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.72 million viewers. The series premiere easily won its timeslot 8pm timeslot but was trounced by ABC’s Modern Family at 9pm (CBS’ Criminal Minds was a close third).
We’ll have to wait for the final national numbers but X Factor won’t even likely be the network’s biggest series premiere of the season. Tuesday night’s New Girl sitcom brought in a 4.8 in the demo and 10.28 million viewers.
X Factor’s numbers are certainly nothing to sneeze at but FOX was surely hoping for another blockbuster right out of the gate. They didn’t get it. Perhaps the market is finally starting to get saturated with singing competitions?
What do you think? Did you watch The X Factor last night? What did you think? What’s your gut instinct? Should the new series continue or be cancelled after one season?

SHOW TERRIBLE JUGGING AWFUL. SIMON ISN;T THAST GREAT EITHER. PROBABLY WON’T ;AST.. THAT IS THE SHOW.
didn’t care for it. could only stay tuned for about 15-30 minutes. was very offended that they let the guy strip and stay on stage flaunting his package with a family audience present and watching on tv. the guy should have been pulled off stage the second the pants dropped the first time. he should have been arrested for indescent exposure. it wasn’t funny, cute, or mildly amusing. what they won’t do for ratings. i sincerely hope this is a huge flop. i believe this is one competition i won’t be watching. actually there are too many singing shows on. i’ll stick with idol and agt.
They waited too long to bring “The X Factor” to America. Since it’s pretty much a combination of “America’s Got Talent” and “The Voice” it seems outdated already.
Please don’t cancel this, it has to be the season’s top new show!
I didn’t even bother. I watched Modern Family instead.
No and will not be watching. Was thrilled when IDOL dumped Paula so I’m not about to watch another program with her on it as a judge. Plus FOX has gotten cancel happy with to many good shows to give one of there new ones a chance.
There was no way I was going to put myself through the exposure to Simon and Abdul.
He’s so passe and a bore. Abdul is just plain crazy. There are better pilots to watch.
CANCEL IT AND CANCEL IT NOW!!!
Zzzzzzzzz. Boring. Seen it all before. Cowell and Abdul make it that much more intolerable.
