Three Rivers: Poor Premiere Ratings; Cancel It or Keep It?

Three RiversMany Moonlight fans are still upset over the cancellation of CBS’ Friday night vampire series. CBS is counting on viewers wanting more of the show’s star, Alex O’Loughlin, and put him front and center in the new medical series, Three Rivers. So, will O’Loughlin’s physician outlive his vampire character?

Three Rivers revolves around a team of elite surgeons who work in the high-pressure and emotional world of organ transplants. The leader is Dr. Andy Yablonski, (O’Loughlin) a workaholic with a quick wit.

His co-workers include rebellious Dr. Miranda Foster (Katherine Moennig), womanizing Dr. David Lee (Daniel Henney), inexperience coordinator Ryan Abbott (Christopher Hanke), dedicated head of surgery Dr. Sophia Jordan (Alfre Woodard), and Pam Acosta (Justina Machado), Andy’s best friend.

TV show supportMany have suspected that the drama was in trouble even before it got out of the starting gate. Amid some negative early reviews, CBS decided to bump the pilot episode and air the second installment instead. The second episode, which is set to air next week, is called “Ryan’s First Day” and might be a little confusing since returning viewers have already seen Ryan working at his job.

Should Three Rivers be cancelled?

Based on the early ratings, that may be the least of CBS’ worries. Three Rivers debuted last night with a disappointing 9.17 million viewers and a 2.0/5 rating/share among adults 18-49. It ranked in a distant third place in total viewership and a distant fourth place in the all important demographic.

Three Rivers retained a little more than 70% of its lead-in audience and, in the same timeslot last year, Cold Case brought in almost two million more viewers.

Based on typical ratings trends, even fewer people can be expected to return next week. If you look at it that way, Three Rivers’ life expectancy doesn’t look very good.

Is Three Rivers worth saving or should CBS do a mercy killing and cancel it now? What do you think?

Love this show. It would be a mistake to cancel it.
The time slot I think is the problem. You have Desperate Housewives and NFL games.
The show is awesome, very real. I admit, the first thing that intrigued me to watch it was the fact that Alex O’loughlin was starring in it. He’s is drop dead gorgeous but a great actor as well and his character is very believable. All the cast members deliver great performances.
Please don’t disappoint us again with a cancel. There are plenty of other shows that shouldn’t take up air time.

Please keep it……………..love Alex O loughlin….I got to say I only started watching Three Rivers because I was a BIG Moonlight fan. But the truth it’s growing on me…..I wish CBS would give this show a good look and keep it.

I love this show. It has great actors and an excellent storyline. It has the outcome we would all like as an ending in real life (a positive outcome).

I think this was one of the best shows in the new season this year. The acting was superb, the hospital with all the high tech big screens all over that showed blood test results and ct scan results etc. was awesome!!! The transplant subject was fascinating, seeing all aspects of the transplants – from someone dying to give them up and to the recipients that are terminally ill waiting for an organ. AND all the history in between of the patients lives. I think if they give it a chance and put it on another night I’m sure it would fly in the ratings!!! AND I have a personal interest because its set in Pittsburgh and that’s where I’m from and proud of it!!!

Please do all you can to keep “Three Rivers” on the CBS lineup. This show is worth saving because of the messages that is has been sending such as the importance of organ/tissue donation, the impace for the donor families and the family of the one receiving these gifts. It also sends a message on how we should treat each other because in a split second, lives and people can be changed forever. Five episodes is not enough time to consider the success or failure of a new show. There is an audience out there for
“Three Rivers”. We may not be in the ideal $$$$$ demographic that advertisers want, but we are out there. If CBS is truly interested in keeping “Three Rivers” alive, then please do everything possible to ensure its success, such as a new day and time slot. Please do whatever it takes, but DO NOT CANCEL ‘THREE RIVERS” .

I agree with Vicki. I think the time slot is the issue too. I think it would be a mistake to cancel this show. I was a huge fan of Moonlight and very disappointed when that was taken off the air. Please don’t make a mistake by taking this one off too!

BRING BACK MOONLIGHT!!!!! THIS SHOW SUCKS, but Alex is beautiful and I would watch him dance in a potato sack!! The only reason I keep watching is to see him every Sunday, but it is painfully predictable. It’s like a bad version of House, it is a transplant hospital so you KNOW what is going to happen every week. Someone will die to save another’s life. At least with House you know what is going to happen, but Hugh Laurie’s “demeanor” saves the show. This show is seriously missing SOMETHING!

After this weeks FABULOUS ep, I think they should give it a full season.

But………….I think that the person that picked the second ep to use as the premier should be given 5 lashes!!! (on Hollywood Blvd no less)

Nothing like picking the weakest of the lot to start the year off.

Cancel it! CBS is done. This is the kind of crap that CBS places in its lineup along with 7 different CSIs/ crime dramas and 9 more different lame doctor shows. The Unit was the best show they had and they axed to make room in the budget for Medium, a show that was axed by another network. That makes 2 talking -to-the-dead crime fighting shows, nice. This leaves nothing for the male demographic to watch on CBS besides football. What a joke. This show ain’t gonna last, and when it fails they will create yet another crappy doctor or forensics show, maybe this one will be set in Des Moines or some place exciting like that. CBS, please stop with the crap and BRING BACK THE UNIT!

I love Three Rivers and entire brilliant cast ensemble. Three Rivers is a gem of a show, so refreshing, exciting and inspiring, unlike the standard crime dramas.

Three Rivers deserves a full season and a second season. All the actors are superb in every episode. How many crime dramas can one watch during the week? I love Three Rivers and its entire gifted young cast.

I say cancel it! It’s really crappy!! Bring back Moonlight instead, it was much much better!!
If CBS gives Three Rivers full season, let alone second season, I will be deeply offended, since they didn’t care to give Moonlight so much attention. Moonlight had much better ratings than Three River has, btw!!
