Three Rivers: CBS Pulls Alex O’Loughlin Medical Drama; Cancelled?

Three RiversTo little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?

Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.

The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.

To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.

Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.

A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.

TV show supportEight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.

What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Three Rivers should not have been removed from television. This show was extremely interesting for persons in the medical field and persons who are going through medical situations such as kidney transplants and heart problems, etc. Tell me why is it that sexual contents, swearing, cursing and nudity is allowed to remain on television and yet a program that dealt with life and death situations such as Three Rivers isn’t. Shame to the people who make the decision to shelve good programs and keep the smut on. The generation of today has become cold and indifferent to killing a person, raping, dismembering humans. Instead of ingraining these types of things into the persons mind why not teach them that life is special and every human doesn’t need to be killed or assaulted. I guess money/greed is more important to these decision makers…old saying is money talk and bs walks. Maybe some of these so called executives decision makers should walk too.

Agreed. This show was one of the most original shows on television in a long time. It was often delayed by Sunday Night Football, which was frustrating enough. To find out that it is canceled is beyond words. Cancel Cold Case and keep Three Rivers.

I am really disappointed that this show just “disappeared”. I thought it was a great show and if the time slot or day didn’t work then move to another night. There are nights when there is nothing good on.. Thursdays for example. NFL football messed up Cold Case too every week we just DVR’d them and watched later anyway. A great show and took the place of ER in my mind! Maybe a smart network like TNT or USA will pick them up as they have other shows that have been cancelled off of network tv. I miss Without a Trace too… Criminal Minds and Cold Case are the only CBS shows I ever watch…

Great show; sorry to learn that it has been cancelled—-but good shows usually are. Where do you get your ratings? Certainly not from my house or friends.

This was a great show. Hopefully, another network will pick it up. This show had it all. It showed how people deal with a life and death situtation. I’m very upset that the network cancelled this show. Those who do do the ratings need their heads examined for cancelling Three Rivers.

I agree with everyone else. How can Three Rivers be pulled when a new medical show like Mercy on Weds with lots of sex and alcohol and affairs survives? I am completely disgusted with the lack of quality television available for family viewing.

I really enjoyed this show very much. Organ transplant is something that my family had to face when my sister was taken from us at the age of 20 and I was able to relate to alot of aspects of this show and truly enjoyed it. I really think it would have a great shot. There really wasn’t alot of advertisment or hipe before the show aired and even when it was on the air. There are some shows out there that receive all sorts of attention and I know several people that fail to see the attraction. Maybe that was the problem with this, not enough hipe surrounding it. I feel that it will be a big mistake to not bring this show back.

My wife and I LOVED that show. We had a hard time getting to see it because it was constantly being bumped by other shows. One evening I asked my wife if she thought it would last without the charachters jumping in and out of bed with each other…..guess what?… I was unfortunately right! I hope it gets picked up again and is given a constant time that doesn’t get changed…. then it would get a fair chance.

Three Rivers was a great show. I really looked forward to it as it was a quality show without all the unnecessary sex stuff thrown in. In focused on a critical need in the medical community – organ transplants – and what has to be done through on both sides to qualify for one and meet that need. Typical TV execs. They start a program late and then expect it to find its audience after other shows have already established theirs. They shouldn’t do that to quality problems. They’ve done the same thing with Find My Family – another necessary quality program.

Alex O’Loughlin needs to be on TV. He’s a darn good actor. I miss Moonlight too. I just learn he has an Irish accent. Women love accents. No one would ever cancel him if he used his real voice. Why would anyone want to speak like we do? I could listen to an accent day & night. Bring him back – somehow!

I loved this show! I think if they cant handle it on this network then USA or Spike or one of the cable channels should pick it up. This is a great show! Cold Case should be dropped at least this had some people that had personality. Keep it or give it to a network that can handle it but dont throw it away!!!
