Three Rivers: CBS Pulls Alex O’Loughlin Medical Drama; Cancelled?

Three RiversTo little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?

Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.

The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.

To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.

Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.

A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.

TV show supportEight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.

What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I attempted to watch it twice. I really liked Katherine Moenig in the L Word and was hoping to follow her to Three Rivers. I was not able to watch even one episode for 10 minutes. The show was SO CHEESY and they seemed to try to make her look as unattractive as possible. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did. I hope she finds something better.

I loved the show; it never had a chance against Sunday night football. They should bring it back at another time/day slot.

I always looked forward to the show. Maybe Sunday night wasn’t the best time for it . I think it brought organ donation to peoples minds, and made them think about the reality about how so few organs are availbale… in the real world. No one talks about organ donation because they’re scared of it. This show sort of let people know how come it isn’t a scary thing, and could improve peoples standard of living by receiving an organ donation. I really liked the show, and would love to see more episodes of it!!!

I suspected this show was cancelled only because I had been looking for new episodes for the past few months and there was always something else on. I initially thought it was just being pre-empted and then I thought to myself oh no this show has been cancelled. I really, really, really enjoyed this show and for the life of me can’t understand why cbs allowed it to be cancelled. PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD bring this show back.

My husband and I both absolutely love Three Rivers. I think it is a shame that a truly great tv show can’t seem to stay on the air. I don’t believe there will be another medical tv show that will beat what Three Rivers brought to the table. Please bring it back!

Please bring Three Rivers back! If we missed any of the show we would always find a way to watch it, either on the internet or on comcast!! My husband liked this show more then Grey’s because they actually showed the events that lead up to the person in the hospital and was more about the medical stuff than the drama stuff!! Please bring it back!!

I would like to say that I Loved Three Rivers I honestly feel like the football schedule was to blame, alot of times that I had Three Rivers set to record it was taken up by the football. I really wish that u would bring it back and not let it be interupted by other shows, such as football, Please bring it back it was one of the shows that I could sit down with the family and watch, even to my husband and children watched it with me although u may want to try another day, if there was that much interference like a wednesday or thursday perhaps but please bring it back

My husband and I enjoyed watching this show and wondered what happened to it. It seemed to take a back seat to football-and CBS wonders why it didn’t get the numbers? It hardly had a chance. The high-tech equipment that the hospital was portrayed as having was kind of a new twist. So many medical dramas seem to focus more on the love lives of the hospital personnel. than the medical drama itself and ends up more like a night time soap. I hope they give it another chance or sell it to a cable channel that will “revive” it.

It won’t be back. Just heard Alex is the next McGarrett from Hawaii 5-O. At least Alex will be around.
