Three Rivers: CBS Pulls Alex O’Loughlin Medical Drama; Cancelled?

Three RiversTo little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?

Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.

The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.

To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.

Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.

A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.

TV show supportEight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.

What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I felt like Three Rivers was trying to recruit new doners…and it did not showcase Alex to his best…He needs some playboy type show, would have been perfect for “It takes a thief” spinoff.

I hope they put it back on! I don’t get into Hospital Shows but just when I couldn’t wait for another episode, it was gone. Whatever night they chose, I would watch. I loved it!

I really miss Three Rivers, I really hope they will bring it back. I was also disappointed when they cancelled Moonlight. It just seems all the networks want to air are reality shows, and I personally see enough reality in day to day living, I would rather escape into a good show with interesting SLs . I am almost afraid to get to interested in the good ahows for fear they won’t last. I love the Csi shows and the mentalist , I am just wondering when some suit is gonna decide they want to pull them !! They need to pull some of the stupid shows that plague Monday and Wednesday , the 30 minute fiascos like New Adventures and Rules , they are so stupid. Just please bring Three Rivers back

I loved Moonlight and Three Rivers, Guess I am learning real quick not to get to involved in these good shows because evidentally CBS won’t air the good shows they keep the reality shows though and I don’t understand that because in my opinion Survivor is just showing the same thing over and over ( that being the back stabbing and stupidity of people) I could really do without that. The world is tuff enough so I prefer to escape in good story lines like Three Rivers Etc… Cbs is just throwing away good shows and thats sad

I love Alex O’Loughlin in Moonlight and started watching Three Rivers as SOON as I realized he would be on it. I didn’t like the stories in Three Rivers. Much too much drama. Must every transplant be held up by some type of disaster that in the end is fixed? Don’t think so. I would TIVO the show, fast forward through the organ pickup process and always stop and watch when Alex was on. TO CBS:

I agree with some comments why not try another night (Tuesday ) or Saturday nights football is great, but TV viewer would like to look at something else. Please bring Three Rivers back the story line made a lot sence.
THANK YOU

I’d like to see this show on Friday or Saturday nights. Some of us aren’t out in clubs and would love to see a good show on those nights for a change!

Sunday night is a horrible time slot! Even when there isn’t football, there are other popular, more entrenched shows and a struggling show might not get the attention it deserves.

Why not put Three Rivers on Monday or Tuesday when there is absolutely nothing on. Sunday is always terrible because of all the things that make the show late. There is always a sports game on earlier in the day that changes the regularly scheduled programs. I always record the Sunday night programs, because we have church, and usually miss them because they have been moved back. Three Rivers was GREAT, and I want it back.

I am still wondering what will happen to this show. All the good show get cancelled. These network executives need to stop watching the stupid reality shows and KEEP good shows like this one.
