The art designer of best-selling video games like Gears of War and Command and Conquer has been signed to helm the previously announced ThunderCats movie.
Variety reports that Jerry O’Flaherty had been looking for a project to take the leap into feature films and the adaptation of the popular 1980s animated series seemed like a perfect fit. O’Flaherty says, “It feels like a natural thing for me to step into. Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of film making into the video game experience.”
Unlike other animated properties that are being translated to the big screen, ThunderCats will be CG-animated. O’Flaherty will work with screenwriter Paul Sopocy on the script which is expected to retell the tale of Lion-O’s coming of age as the leader of the heroic humanoid cat team. No mention’s been made of voice talent or a release date as yet. Stay tuned!
