The action-adventure drama follows a history professor, a soldier, and a scientist as they travel through time to stop a mysterious criminal. The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, and Paterson Joseph.
In the interview, Kripke teased “mind-bending new twists” for the season one finale:
Our team heads into 1954 and Joseph McCarthy/Red Scare Washington to climatically face down both Flynn and Rittenhouse once and for all. It’s a finale that doesn’t pull its punches. It’s a finale that really wraps up a lot of emotional character and plot issues that have been playing out all season. Big momentous things happen all throughout the episode. And then on top of that we ask a whole bunch of new questions and have a whole bunch of mind-bending new twists that will take us into Season 2.”
Ryan later mentioned that the finale will have some satisfying closure:
NBC has not yet announced whether or not Timeless will be renewed for a second season. Currently, the series is part of an ongoing lawsuit and ratings have been on the decline since the series premiered in October.
We put a lot of balls up in the air and it was important to us to try to really give a very satisfying conclusion to the season to our audience. So, while some new questions will be raised and some things will happen that will make you go, ‘Well, geez, what’s going to happen now in Season 2,’ I think we just endeavored very hard to give the audience what they want.”
The season one finale of Timeless airs tonight, February 20th, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
