Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Are you kidding this is the best show on TV today.
I have already emailed NBC two times telling them that I think the cancellation of “Trauma” is one of the dumbest moves they’ve ever made. First they put it on opposite the second hour of ABC’s very popular “Dancing With The Stars”, second they don’t even wait until ”Dancing” is done for the season and let “Trauma” find it’s audience. I think “Trauma” is one of THE best shows on TV right now. I told myself at the beginning of the season that I was NOT going to watch new shows because they just get cancelled after a few episodes. I’m sick of it! “Southland”, another NBC cancelled show has been picked up by TNT. I hope they pick up “Trauma” too! Close down Leno! His show is a sinking ship.
Trauma is a spectacular show with great story-lines, characters and plenty of action. It is trully a shame that NBC (in it’s infinite wisdom) has decided to cancel such a great series !!
Does anyone know the name of a person who can do something at NBC…..what about a write-in campaign ??
You have got to be kidding me, what is up with NBC i cant believe they are cancelling this good show and not even giving it a good and fair chance for more viewers to get involved and interested in the show. Only 9 episodes for a brand new show is NOT enough for viewers to see what it is really about.
Very disappointed in NBC, i loved Trauma, especially since ER ended its run. It showed signs of having the success of ER.
I can’t believe they are cancelling TRAUMA!!!
This is the best show this season!
Very disappointed in NBC!
DAMN DISAPPOINTED WITH NBC!!! Always canceled out good tv series like TRAUMA! I LOVE IT! the story lines is totally awesome!
Trauma is a superbly well written and acted program. Granted, many of the details of the EMT life are inaccurate or played-up for dramatic effect, but the same can be said of EVERY single medical TV show in history (i.e, House, ER, Mercy, M.A.S.H., etc.)! Trauma never fails to capture the attention of its viewers, and a large percentage of them are real-life Health Care Professionals, so, obviously the inaccuracies aren’t TOO awful or distracting. I would STRONGLY urge NBC to reconsider their decision not to pick-up any more seasons of this show, and would add my comment to the list of others that suggest that the real problem isn’t the show, but the day and/or time-slot. Fix that issue, and I bet the show would jump up in viewers significantly.
I think it is ridiculous to expect a show like Trauma to attract a large audience right away.Give this show some time and the audience will find it.However the powers that be in t.v. are to short sighted to give a good show some time . I swear if they replace Trauma with a show about vampires or a Gossip Girl ripoff I am taking my new 32″vizio outside and setting it on fire!!! aaauugghh
I have interviewed over 45 people for my upcoming local news/entertainment website and while everyone had not seen Trauma, all that did agreed that it is a great show. It seems to be the concensus is that along with Heros, Trauma is the best show to hit NBC in ages. Just when the network seems to get it right, they screw it up by cancelling it. There are a lots of people who are sick of all the fake “reality” shows out there. Trauma is a truely entertaining show that is gaining popularity. If whoever decided to cancel this show does not change their mind, they should be the next one cancelled. I know I speak for alot of viewers in my area in saying WAKE UP NBC and correct this mistake!
I’m very disappointed with NBC. They cancelled a good show last year and have now cancelled the only show that I watch every Monday night. After Trauma ends I won’t be tuning into NBC as there is nothing on there that I like.
NBC has finally obtained a show that is worth watching and you want to cancel……I don’t understand how you would rather show something like the Big Loser than Trauma…..
I look forward to this show every week. The time slot that this show is in is what is causing the problem. Move it to another night and see what happens. NBC makes bad choices and that is why they flounder in the ratings constantly. The Jay Leno show should taken off and leave this show alone.
Come on NBC. Look what the show is up against. Two of the best comedies on CBS and Dancing With The Nitwits on ABC. People say they are so sick of Hollywood but can’t wait to watch that garbage every week.
I love this show! I look forward to it every Monday Night! I love the characters and the actors! Please don’t cancel it! I love the show! Its an awesome series!
The first time I watched this show I didnt like it how ever I now love it and do not want it to go away
