Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided to cancel Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I am so sad that NBC would cancel a great show it keeps you hanging on from begining to end
I can’t believe they canelled this show. My niece and I love it. Maybe CBS will pick it up!
NBC always cancels shows way to early. Give it a chance. It is hard to invest your time in a show when you know that it will probably be cancelled. I am about ready to give up on NBC. I love TRAUMA and hope it ends up not being cancelled.
NBC is out of control. Bring back Fred Silverman!
Trauma has been a wonderful show packed full of excitement, drama, and individual struggles. It has emphasized the selfless aid that is given to so many victims of accidents by the paramedics, fire-fighters and medical personnel. There are few good shows on TV anymore that depict was really goes on out there in the world. The reality shows and sit-coms do not begin to compare to what shows like Trauma bring to the TV world. I will miss this show a lot.
First “Southland” and now “Trauma”. Come on NBC stop canceling shows. Have faith that they will come around.
No wonder NBC is in such bad shape. Serious personnel changes should be made throughout the network and basically start over with competent people. IMO, Trauma was the best new show on TV this season. DUMB MOVE!!!
Well, it seems like everytime a great show comes on TV the networks decide to cancel it. I think this would be a big mistake with Trauma. This is a great show and similar to ER which went on for many, many seasons. I mean NBC, get real, after only a month someone decided to cancel this show. Bad move!!! Guess I’ll start watching shows on the other networks.
Great show. don’t cancel
This is a better show than Mercy. It should be the other way around. Mercy cancelled and Trauma continued.
Trauma is a WONDERFUL show and they should NOT cancel it! I tried to watch that Mercy crap and couldn’t even make it through one episode. I am in the trauma medicine field and I find this show to be as close to the “nitty gritty” as possible. NBC sucks to be cancelling this one. Just what we need…ANOTHER medical drama taking place mostly in a hospital setting like let’s see…Grey’s Anatomy (fail), ER (fail), Scrubs (Fail), need I go on? I’m thinking of boycotting NBC if this show doesn’t get picked back up, What are the executives THINKING? They’re NOT. End of rant.
Trauma is my favorite show on at this time along with Law & Order SVU. Mercy is horrible. Previews looked good, but when I watched the first few episodes I was not impressed. Got to the point I couldn’t watch Mercy anymore. I think if you cancel Trauma you will be making a HUGE mistake. ER was my favorite of all times but atleast I had several years to watch it. Still sad it has ended, but I’ve accepted that. Trauma is a wonderful show. I look forward to watching it every week. I record it when I will be gone. You all are crazy if you cancel Trauma
This was a pretty good show. I DVR’d it as not home in time to watch. The pace was great, the SF scenery beautiful and story lines were enjoyable. NBC you are making another mistake in canceling this show!
Trauma is fabulous. Please don’t make the mistake of canceling it.
Great show, too bad NBC have cancelled it so soon instead of giving it a couple seasons to ‘grow’ a fan base.
I’ll miss it.
