Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

It is a good show. Put it on a different night and watch it FLOURISH. There is so much competition on Monday night that some shows get left out in the cold. The rest of the week of TV watching sucks. I record 5 shows on Monday and watch them later in the week, because I have to. This show has drama, character building, action, story line and compassion.
REALITY TV SHOWS ARE PLAYED OUT AND STUPID. Get rid of them and get back to scripted shows if you think you can handle it.
Finally, a GOOD show on tv and the network is CANCELLING IT! I agree with the previous comment that perhaps it needs to be on another network or another night because it’s too good to be cancelled! Great cast, especially Cliff Curtis – he’s great and I love the chemistry between him and Anastacia Griffith. Please try to find a way to keep this show!
I can’t believe NBC could cancel the show Trauma while even more worthless reality shows are getting on TV!!! The actors in Trauma are all great, the story lines are exciting and captivating. Each week I’ve looked forward to watching it, as well as many of my friends.
NBC must have made some critical mistakes with how they’re attracting an audience for this show. It’s fantastic, so it’s quite sad that a show this compelling and well-written/acted gets canceled because no one are watching it. I understand Monday is busy, but that’s why we have DVRs. I don’t think they should cancel the show. I think they should find a way to sell it better. The product isn’t bad, just the salesman.
My wife and I are very dissapointed that the show will be cancelled, we watch this show every week and can’t wait for the next one to come. We are both EMT’s in our home state and really enjoy the show. It is a shame that it won’t get an opportunity for a second season.
Regards
Ditto- I stumbled on this website when googling Cliff Curtis to see his acting portfolio and am so disappointed to hear the show is cancelled. Bad decision. The character development is far better than many nighttime dramas, making it a show I actually look forward to as we get to learn more and more about each person. My husband and I record this and watch together later in the week. The suspense leading up to each medical catastrophe has become a bit of a joke with us- one of the great things about this show…the fact that we can laugh in the face of such adversity. Hopefully someone else will pick it up!
I am so sick of getting hooked on FINALLY a great show and it gets cancelled. Hopefully the number of people watching this show will increase and they will change there minds. I hear that they said there was not enough action in the show. The show is filled with action from the moment it start till the very end. Very disappointed that is ending.
I think that is stupid that NBC cancelled TRAUMA, it’s a very good program and I want that continue… is one of the first good programs that NBC has and the cancelled it tha sucks…
Totally bummed! Love this show. It is so different from Mercy and the two cannot be compared. Please give it another chance!
I really enjoy this show. You keep shows like, The Biggest Loser on and I could care less
about that show. It may help those people, but it doesn’t me at all.
Keep Trauma !!!!
There aren’t too many shows out there that I really like. After the first show I didn’t think
I’d watch it again, I decided to give it another chance. Well, I found out I really enjoy the show. Keep it on!
This is a really good show. I am not sure if these comments do any good but I hope NBC reconsiders and places it on another night to see if it will do well. That first episode got me hooked. Play the re-runs over the holidays on a different night and see if they can pick up more viewers.
I enjoy both Trauma and Mercy. I actually started using my DVR to record network TV again. I am so tired of getting hooked into a story line and then it just disappearing.
I hope plans change or another network pick up either of these if they both end up being dropped.
That is too bad. This was a great show. Growing up in SF it was nice to see the beautiful city … why don’t they give it a chance?
They need to keep it. Trauma is great and I love the characters!
