Trauma: NBC Effectively Cancels TV Show, No Season Two

Trauma canceledLast May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.

With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.

Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.

The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.

TV show supportTo no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.

What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?

UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

They do need to take off Chuck.

Here is the issue with regular syndicated shows at NBC:

The good ones they take off. The crappy ones they leave, bring back stuff that should have been left alone. The regular audiences in general are getting fed up with half season, nothing new during the December and January months, then they come back in February and only have 3 weeks left before the season is over.

The days as it was when I was growing up are gone.
Holiday shows from the sitcoms to the dramas. They have killed that, they just don’t show anything new during that time.

They have cut the episodes almost to half of what they used to be. This is the general issue here.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE FIRED AT NBC

I don’t like like all the exec making stupid decisions. Lets look at the tonight show craziness. Enough said. NBC sucks.

NBC is starting to not mean: National Broadcast Company
NBC means : NO BODY CARES!

If no one cares at the NBC network, why should we as the consumer of its SHITTY products.

Hell, Heroes has gone to hell in a hand basket!
Fire the writers as well as the Execs. I’ll come in an play over there, bet I can do a better job!!!!!

It’s no wonder that CBS is always kicking NBC’s butt, a good show like Trauma is Canx and other dumb shows carry on.

I am very upset that Trauma has been cancled, I was a big fan of “ER” and now that it is over, I really like Trauma. I do watch “Mercy”, but think that Trauma was a lot better, so they chose the wrong show to cancel in my opinion.

My family and I usually do not watch NBC because it rarely has TV series of interest or any that we enjoy until Trauma. We would make an effort to record or watch live. We couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Taking this show off just goes to prove we will not be watching NBC. Monday night was the only night we watched it but now FOX will remain our favorite channel and NBC will be passed up!

too bad, I thought it was one of the best shows this season on TV. The network should give it a second chance

Not canceled. Ten new episodes starting March 8. Despite what you may have read, better than 50/50 chance there will be a season 2.
