Trauma: NBC Effectively Cancels TV Show, No Season Two

Trauma canceledLast May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.

With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.

Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.

The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.

TV show supportTo no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.

What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?

UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

NBC, you have made a huge mistake in canceling this show. Its one of those shows like Friday Night Lights where it grows on people. Did you see all the complaints you got when you cancelled FNL ? Well somebody else picked it up for 2 more seasons, and you lost out, because the audience has grown in vast numbers, just as trauma would have. Big mistake and loss on your part.

I found the show Trauma to be a very exciting and a show you look forward to every week. I am a Emergency Dispatcher and unfortunately I had to DVR the show as I work Monday nights. I hope that NBC or another network will bring this show back. This is a good quality show that many people watched. If I was able to watch it when it aired on Monday nights I would have. If the ratings were not high enough for the networks, how about changing the days its on. Wednesdays and Thursdays there is nothing on TV. Please bring TRAUMA back !!!!

I think it is rediculous that they finally come out with a good show and replace it with some crappy tv show. There wasn’t anything wrong with the trauma show. People who dont like it had how many other channels to watch while its on. I am in the medical field as an EMT and going for my paramedic soon, this is a bunch of bull. I hate it when the wrong people put there hands in the bucket. I honestly think people should watch it because there are too many dumb americans who cant even do something as simple as CPR to a person or even there own family. People might actually learn something from watching it.

I was sooo disappointed to see that TRAUMA was cancelled… It was my favorite show! Something must be wrong with the statistics – cause i know so many who watched it? And we are all equally surprised… Very disappointing…

Miss the Show! The show was not only interesting, pretty much realistic, suspenseful and just an all around good show to watch. My passion is Law Enforcement but this show really hit the spot and was a good show to watch! BRING IT BACK or Make it an online Series!

We’re sick of all the redundant crap that’s on tv. We want Trauma back. It’s the only show that reveals a realistic look at what these EMTs go through every day. It’s entertainingly gritty and fun to watch. How many more Cop, Hospital, Lawyer and CSI shows do we really need??? NEED I SAY MORE???
