Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Realy like the different spin in this medical show. Trauma is very inlightening hope to see it back on the air.
I really like trauma. Its not like the medical shows! Im truely gutted that it has been cancelled and think that there should be some series’ and i think there needs to be more because the last episode didnt really give the show a proper ending if it is to be cancelled
This always happens!!!! Just when u fall in love with a show it gets taking off the air..I am very upset that Trauma has been cancled.. I am a nurse and love to watch Trauma weekly.. I want it to come back.. It’s a serious medical show and is greatly LOVED…
That is stupid. It was a good tv show they should atleast give it another chance!
I am very upset that Trauma has been cancelled. I wanted to see more of Rabbit. That was a very good show.
im so disappointed I loved that show and couldn’t wait for the new season I really thought this one would make u suck
Trauma is one of the best shows on and really want to see it come back along with mercy
I am in the medical field and I loved this show! Im sad that NBC cancelled it without even bringing season 1 to a proper end.
I myself can say that hearing of NBC canceling Trauma was a real heartbreaker. i watched the show every week and even taped it to review over again. I am an EMT and have been for 11 years and watching this show has given me a lot to look forward at the future. I have seen a lot of mixed emergencies but u truly enjoyed the show as well as my wife who is in the medical field. It is a great BIG diappointment that NBC would make such a harsh decision on not bringing the show back this season.
best fucking show ever
I for one am glad this piece of crap was cancelled. As a paramedic, it was laughable garbage. I know it’s tv and things are exaggerated, but seriously, it was AWFUL.
I really hope this show will return it is one of our family favs and my son and my wife will be heartbroken if it does not return..Trauma is a family show and not many of those left that is so great…so please please please…keep it on the air
That show was one the best that i seen.It a shame that they did not give that show one more try
i am really upset that this show has been cancelled- I loved to see the perspective from the EMT’s- I wish they would reconsider.
i recently graduated frm skool as an emt thanks to the motivation this show gave me!! i absolutely loved it and so did my husband and he s a paramedic!! please bring this show back!!!
