Trauma: NBC Effectively Cancels TV Show, No Season Two

Trauma canceledLast May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.

With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.

Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.

The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.

TV show supportTo no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.

What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?

UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Totally disappointed that they cancelled this show. I was wondering when it would come back on again. I loved the exciting adrenaline rush from medical shows, and this one REALLY was an awesome show. NBC really flubbed up on cancelling this one. I used to watch this on the off-season of Grey’s, and although that is one of my favorte shows — I thought had more excitement lately than Grey’s had in its past few episodes … what a let down, NBC!!

I think they made a horrible choice in cancelling this show Trauma was my favorite show! Mercy should have been cancelled. I watched the first couple episodes of that and couldn’t watch anymore it got boring! But Trauma was always exciting! I will say again HORRIBLE choice.

I had to record the last season and just finished watching it. I am sad to learn that there won’t be any more episodes and this was a great show. I was also sad at how they ended it with Nancy and Rabbit. He finally got it together and she flips out. NBC you made a mistake in not keeping this one.

this show was amazing, again they left it wide open for anything to happen just like mercy, they need to bring both shows back. if they were aired at diff times the producers would probly notice a huge increase in ratings, have one on during the fall and one the summer of need be, or different days of the week

i’m quite disappointed the show got canceled.
i actually really enjoyed it. i thought it was a nice change of role focus. most medical shows focus on the doctors and nurses, it was nice see the paramedic drama side.

This show was awesome. I have no clue why they cancelled it. I always got an adrenaline rush from just watching it! Having grown up around emergency workers, it’s good to see a show that reflects how they really are (for the most part). Their medical was spot on. NBC also cancelled SouthLAnd which is another of my faves. I’m just glad that TNT picked it up. I refuse to get hooked on shows on NBC…..they’ll just cancel them!
