TV show description:
This anthology show features a different cast of characters and storyline for each season. The series begins in 2012 and follows two former Louisiana State Police Detectives as they are brought in to revisit a homicide case they worked on in 1995.

As the inquiry unfolds in present day through separate interrogations, the two former detectives narrate the story of their investigation, reopening unhealed wounds, and drawing into question their supposed solving of a bizarre ritualistic murder in 1995. The timelines braid and converge in 2012 as each man is pulled back into a world they believed they’d left behind. In learning about each other and their killer, it becomes clear that darkness lives on both sides of the law.

Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) transferred out of Texas law enforcement. A cerebral, intense thinker, he holds a negative view of society which sometimes puts him at odds with his partner and the rest of the force.

Rust’s partner is Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) and the more conservative of the pair. While he may not always understand Rust’s methods, he respects his partner’s commitment to police work and runs interference between Rust and their commanding officer.

Marty has two daughters with his wife, Maggie (Michelle Monaghan), a nurse at the local hospital. Intelligent and outspoken, her instincts are as sharp as her husband’s. They met in college.

Major Ken Quesada (Kevin Dunn) was the detectives’ the supervising officer in 1995.

Detective Maynard Gilbough (Michael Potts) and Detective Thomas Papania (Tory Kittles) are the investigators probing Hart and Cohle for answers in the present.

Great show and yes, really dark also. As I understand it, if it comes back next season it will be with a NEW SET of actors and another storyline; at least that’s what I got from reading the info above. Can’t get much better with these two actors, but I’m sure looking forward to a new season!! These kinds of crazy killers actually exist which is what makes this show so much scarier to watch.

    What a terrific show!
Writing, direction and of course, the acting. So great to see something so engrossing and involving on TV.
I’m more interested in what happens to the relationships between the two main characters than I am finding the murderer. I look forward to see what the writers have in store for us in the next series.
    PLEASE, don’t cancel the series.

This show has you really wondering what the heck is going on… It is quit dark, but that’s ok. I am very intrigued by the multiple sub-plots. This could definitely become very popular like “The Following” if it is done right.

A riveting, brilliant show! It was made even better by two stellar actors: Matt McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. True Detective is a dark, taut, undulating drama, set in a moody backwoods Louisiana. You seldom see this level of writing and acting….a real gem. It is not for everyone, because it is not one of those formula police procedurals….its a lot more, done really really well.

True the show is dark, but it is based on the demons people have. It shows what some are capable of. We see it everyday on the news. Its better than watching a rich housewife trying to decide what size diamonds to wear with her Versace dress. Just saying
