Move over Outlaw, NBC has cancelled another new series. The spy dramedy Undercovers is ending its run after 13 episodes.
Undercovers revolves around a married pair of former spies who are pulled back into service after their close friend goes missing. The TV show features the talents of Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mekia Cox, Carter MacIntyre, Gerald McRaney, and Ben Schwartz.
The series stumbled right out of the gate and attracted a disappointing 2.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.7 million viewers. In week two, the demo fell by 24% to a 1.6 rating and the numbers essentially kept on falling. Last night’s episode hit a new demo low with a 1.3 rating and 5.913 million total viewers.
Though NBC ordered four additional scripts in mid-October, the studio suspected that that show’s been doomed for quite awhile. Today, the network made it official — Undercovers has been cancelled.
It remains to be seen if fans of the series will get to see all 13 installments. Seven episodes have aired so far and three more are scheduled for November 10th, November 17th, and December 1st. NBC has a Shrek holiday special scheduled for Thanksgiving eve (November 24th) and The Sing-Off will take over the timeslot on December 8th.
Three episodes of Undercovers will be left on the shelf at that point and the network will decide at a later date if or when they’ll air.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Undercovers is coming to an end? Why do you think it didn’t catch on? How would you have fixed it?

I loved the show. I’m sorry it’s been cancelled. Being I work the night shift, I get up early just to watch the show. Under Covers will be missed.
sophisticated, educated attractive exciting, well-spoken, multilingual, multicultural-adventures across the world-characters I could relate to-chemistry abound, well directed, great photography, snappy dialogue…so what trash did you leave us with????Bring this show back-and this continued level of fun-for grownups who hate cheap reality television, poor(and no)writing skills,no talent non actors-taking this show off is a mistake, NBC….
I totally agree with Anonymous………..no chemistry, too much “in bed” time, poor writing………nothing of real interest to make me come back again. I’ve tried to watch what I DVR’d, but can’t finish them……..gorgeous people, though!
I love this show sooo much. It was my favorite next to L&O SVU and now its going to be canceled. My friends and I always discussed the show everytime a new episode airs. Now we won’t have anything to talk about on Thursdays. NBC Will resent for choosing to cancel this AWESOME show
This show was awful. The leads were very attractive, but had no chemistry despite the fact that they ended every episode that I watched with them in bed. The writing was bad, the acting was bad, there was no suspense and no humor.
Undercovers is a great show. It is the best new show of the season. The only problem is the date it was placed on. Why air it on a day that many other popular shows are on air, including Criminal Minds and Hell’s Kitchen just to name a couple. They should have aired it on Thursday, or Friday, or any day besides Wednesday.
All this talk of “just changing the time slot” is really silly. Networks can’t go around uprooting and rearranging their shows. That’s a surefire way to lose viewers. When a freshman show falls so quickly and by such a large percent it means that viewers are not liking it. I know a lot of people who watched the show but got sick of it because “all they do is makeout” and from what Ive seen it’s true! It should be called “Under the Covers”. It’s nice that the leads are black and talented but the show wasn’t very good, and… Read more »
I tune in for one reason and one reason only…to see Gugu Mbatha-raw. I could watch her all day. The show is, eh OK. Not really a lot of action-not much suspense either-if one of them is in trouble the other is always there, and if they’re both in trouble the annyoying MI6 guy is there, but I’ll tell you I will miss seeing HER every week. Come on NBC show the rest of the episodes at least, no minute to win it. That’s lame.
LOOK AT THE OPPOSITION YOU HAVE ON AT THAT TIME FRAME TOP MODEL , SURVIVOR AND THAT’S JUST REGULAR TV NOT CABLE. SO REALLY THEY NEVER STOOD A CHANCE TO GET THE HIGH RATINGS. PUT THEN ON THURSDAY WHEN I HAVE NOTHING TO WATCH AT 8 PM. NOT SAYING I DON’T WATCH THEM ON WEDNESDAY AND RECORD IT TOO. BUT THERE ARE TOO MANY OTHER SHOWS ON AT THE SAME TIME CAUSING THEM TO HAVE LOW RATING, IT NOT ROCKET SCIENCE GUYS, DUH!
Not the right time slot. The show could have been more intruiging/engaging if it was on later and could have more..,dare I say risque themes? The leads had chemistry…but as I read they were strangers who had to get to nkow each other…I have no doubt time would have enhanced theor relationship.
I really only tuned in intially for Gerald McRaney!
Beautiful lead actors and top-notch production value, but a badly conceived show with no real premise, forced humor, and underdeveloped characters. This has been done before and done better, most notably with Moonlighting, Hart To Hart, and even the short-lived Thieves with John Stamos and Melissa George, which was a million times smarter and funnier than this, but was cancelled in about the same amount of time.
All the people are gonna resent the networks and no one will be interested in watching.
I don’t know what I would do to make it better other then put it another timeslot. Don’t just cancel it like that. But all the networks do that. I just relly hope the networks realize what their doing. I mean really, WTF are they thinking honestly. I really think if these trends continue, then all the networks are just gonna resent the networks and less and less people will tune in. Today it seems like it’s completely black or white, if it doesn’t get good ratings we just cancel it. So good ratings or just another canceled show. Networks… Read more »
Yeah… that’s how it goes. If a show is costing the network money to air by having low ratings its canceled. This show was not getting rave reviews so it was an all around failure (except in the having pretty leads category, damn the leads are pretty)
That’s the 2nd show where I had TIVO’d every episode but hadn’t watched any and now that they’re both canceled I don’t have to waste hours watching them. And heaven forbid I might actually like them!
I liked the show, oh well. Oh, and it will be replaced by some other “reality” competition show. woopie… just what I always wanted.
