Undercovers: NBC Orders Four More Scripts for Low-Rated Show

UndercoversDespite being NBC’s lowest-rated scripted series on the weekday schedule, the network has ordered four more scripts for Undercovers, their new action series.

Starring Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mekia Cox, Carter MacIntyre, Gerald McRaney, and Ben Schwartz, Undercovers debuted on NBC to a disappointing 2.1 rating in the target 18-49 demographic and 8.7 million total viewers.

In week two, the demo plummeted to a 1.6, a drop of 24%. The ratings have kept falling since then and hit a low of a 1.4 rating last week. It tied for fourth and last place in the timeslot with The CW’s America’s Next Top Model. When a major network ties with a show on The CW, you know they’re in some serious trouble.

TV show supportDespite all of that, NBC appears to be interested in ordering four more installments beyond the initial 13 episode order. The network is supposedly happy with the show creatively but unfortunately, with low ratings, that doesn’t translate into much ad revenue.

Regardless of whether NBC orders additional scripts or episodes, it looks certain that Undercovers is living on borrowed time.

What do you think? Why isn’t Undercovers performing better? What would you change about it or should it just be cancelled?

I think the show has some strong points, but in the worst time slot of the week for a new show. Take the his and hers spy team, put in a 9 pm timeslot and promote the program and watch it fly! It needs to have some work on the script, but what new show doesn’t. Character development comes with developing the story-line. It seems to be quite a large investment to throw it away without proper promotion…. But, that’s just me.

People aren’t watching because the show comes on against Survivor and America’s Next Top Model. Any show would have a problem in that time slot especially a new show. They need to move this show to 9pm after a strong lead in like they do for other shows. This could be a really great show with better writing and a few cast enhancements. Just like NCIS LA changed their cast after season 1, Undercovers could do the same. The geeky guy is ok but unrealistic for actual missions. Someone that naive is perfect for remote involvement. Tension should be created by unexpected twists – not from ignorance or inexperience. There have been plenty of shows shoved down our throats – some even replaced hit shows some nights in hopes we’d watch anyway. I think NBC should give this show a better time slot and more time if they really wanted it to succeed in the first place.

The show had promise but it is to many charatcters and sometimes the plot is a little hard to swallow. They should make it more like foxes “Hard Target”

I rarely watch any prime time television, but found myself watching “Undercovers” on a weekly basis. I really love the characters and the charm of this show.

The problem I find is that I never see promos for this show. The commercials always focus on the shows that come on after, “Law and Order” and “LA? “. “Undercovers” comes on at 8:00 pm which is the start of prime time television, therefore they should be included in the line up, just like the others. I really hope NBC does not cancel this show and give it a chance and especially some advertising so others are aware of how wonderful this show really is.

The writers of this series are the problem with this show. THE WRITERS. Undercover agents in 2010 need a supervisor to visit them every week, really. Are no other modes of communication available in 2010 for spys from america the greatest country in the world? so viewers of this show in 2010 only interact via face to face contact, how can the viewer relate. You can not have caucasian writers writing for African cast members. This show could be great with some tweaking. But I am not one of your overly salaried employees, so there.

I’m disappointed to learn that NBC is cancelling UNDERCOVERS. I make a concerted effort to put Wednesday, 8:00 PM EST, on my weekly calendar so I could enjoy watching this smart/romantic/spy team. UNDERCOVERS should be given at least another season, especially since, NBC has done a poor job of promoting the show. During commercial breaks, throughout day and evening programs, day after day, I’ve seen absolute NO promos for UNDERCOVERS. On the other hand, the audience is constantly reminded to tune in to see CHASE and LAW & ORDER. UNDERCOVERS provided an intelligent way to “get the bad guy (or girl)” without focusing on mutilated, blood-drenched, dead bodies as in so many others shows, such as the CSI series. It was also refreshing to see a Black couple loving/caring for one another (the couple are great to look at, and I like the warm feeling I get when they express love for each other), as well as working in the world of International intrigue, and speaking other languages. A rarity, indeed. If the production is too expensive, the same elegant look could be achieved by having the couple catch international criminals in the U.S. instead of in other countries. In some episodes, if not all, the foreign locations appeared to be sets.

It seems that NBC has forgotten how to sell the show to the public. Maybe that the reason that the network has fallen to third or perhaps fourth. Undercovers can be a good show… add new characters —Strong Villians- Male and Female– THE SHOW HAS EVERYTHING.. SEXY, ACTION…. NEED TO HAVE STORYLINE THAT CONTINUES TO NEXT WEEK..

i couldn’t agree more everytime i watch the show im like come on you can do better. Its just too soft and annoying but everyday im hoping it gets better its just annoying me because they have great characters but that’s it. It could be real good and the villain thing wouldn’t hurt. i feel like its d same thing each and everyday nothing to look forward to, no jaw dropping just beautiful people. ARGH if it can’t get any better than what it is then please CANCEL IT!!!!
