V: Finale Will Be a Bloodbath But May Not Be the End

VA few weeks ago, we reported that, despite low ratings, the producers of ABC’s V had no plans to give fans any kind of closure in the season (likely series) finale. Now, TV Guide reports that the finale will actually be a blood bath, killing off as much as a third of the show’s series regulars.

Executive producer Scott Rosenbaum says that two or three of the following actors have been let go from the ABC series: Scott Wolf (Chad), Logan Huffman (Tyler), Morris Chestnut (Ryan), Joel Gretsch (Father Jack), Laura Vandervoort (Lisa), and Jane Badler (Diana). He’s hoping that this “bold move” (also read: cost cutting) will help convince the network to renew V for a third season. Rosenbaum said that he made his decision of who to get rid of based on “what would be most devastating for the characters I want to continue.”

Vandervoort says that viewers will be shocked by what happens, as the cast and crew were when they read the script.

While it was looking like the new V was doomed to be cancelled after two seasons, it looks like there could be hope. The ratings have started to pick up in the last two weeks and the 18-49 demographic ratings rose nearly 6% each episode. The series is still averaging a poor 1.9 rating in the demo and 5.7 million viewers and there are just four episodes left in the season. If the numbers keep rising, ABC could see this as encouraging enough to give it another shot. A similar thing happened last season when the show was on the bubble.

What do you think? Who won’t survive the season (or series) finale? Do you think ABC will take a chance and renew V again?

Tyler must Go February 26, 2011 at 3:08 am

ABC if you are reading the fan sites, everyone hates Tyler, everyone! His character is awful and needs to GO! Everyone loves Joshua and Lisa. I say let Ryan go…. Diana and Lisa against Anna would be awesome and Father Jack, where is the love triangle with Erica, plus he brings many 4400 fans to the table, another good show that bit the dust to early.
Hope we get another season and please kill the character of Tyler, you fans will be most appreciative! Just read the forums on Twop they even are making Die Tyler Tee Shirt..:-)

i didn’t even watch season one. now i’m hooked on it. but without elizabeth mitchell as the lead role, it wouldn’t be as good.

Brianna February 25, 2011 at 5:46 pm

Erica should get romantically involved with Lisa. That would bring up the ratings.

I absolutely love this show and will be very disappointed if it’s cancelled. As for which characters are going to be knocked off, that’s a real tough call because they’re all great but having said this, I just hope Joshua continues to be in this series …

Please don’t get rid of any of the girls, especially Laura Vandervoort (Lisa). She is absolutely beautiful. This show is fantastic, so please give us a season 3.

Well this week indicated Ryan & Tyler will go. I doubt anyone actually likes Tyler since he’s been the least likable character on TV since day one, and since Ryan thwarted Anna’s assassination he’s been marked for dead.

I watch it, but the show is really bad. They do as good a job as possible with the nonsensical plots.

Please do NOT cancel V!!!! Best show on TV!! I have to disagree with James McDonald…Jane Badler is not the reason I watch, although it is pretty cool to have her on the show though (not to mention Marc Singer is going to be the last episodes of the season)…I’d have to say I watch it for Laura Vandervoort…SOOOOOOOOOOOO damn hot!!!! And of course the show its self is awesome! Loved the original the dvd sets! And it’s getting more and more interesting….PLEASE don’t do like NBC did with The Black Donnellys…I watched that show EVERY week…then..mysteriously…its off the air and being aired online…people haven’t learned yet that it’s usually the movies/tv shows the CRITICS give bad ratings to ALWAYS end up being classics?!? ABC…KEEP V!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To hell with the critics…the critics aren’t the fans…WE ARE!!!!!

Please do not cancel the show and we love Lisa and Jane. I would love to see the old series connect there could be ways this can be done. The aliens have the power do something to the memories and they have already proved that they have been here please do not cancel this show. I love the actors in it. Jane I hope turns out to be good this time. Bring back some of the old actors.

I’m betting on Scott Wolf to be the one to go. He’s more well known and therefore probably has the highest salary. If they’re taking a vote though, I agree that Tyler should go. I want Joshua back!

Which characters should be cut? I have an idea about how to make this decision.

Some years ago, a poll was taken after a cliffhanger installment of the Batman comic with this question: “should Robin die in the next installment?” The fans voted thumbs down, and Robin was dispatched. I think the same should happen here. I’ll cast my vote now: let Tyler go in a shuttle crash. That should boost the ratings.

I think V is excellent I love it and hope it continues. If some caracters are let go, I hope ABC makes the right choices. This will be critical as many viewers are becoming attached to these actors. ABC, please keep it going!

James McDonld February 22, 2011 at 11:22 pm

Why get rid of Jane Badler on V? She is the reason why people are watching the tv series again. I enjoy Jane Badler’s scenes, but I wish they would release her from the dungeon for a game of cat and mouse or have her join our heroes in New York. let’s see what powers Diana has against her daughter.

Visitor, everything you wrote is exactly what I want from V! Especially as a fan of the original when I was a little kid. I really miss the Visitors’ voice effects, though.
The show’s direction has definitely improved.
I just finished watching the new ep (it just finished airing) and it was absolutely the best one yet. No question. The plot development was more than most of the series so far, COMBINED.
Please give us a season 3, ABC.
