V: ABC TV Show Renewed for Season Two

V renewed season twoThe aliens came and, despite some ratings challenges, they are staying — for at least one more season. ABC has renewed the V TV show for a second season.

Like the original, the new V revolves around the arrival of aliens to the planet Earth. While the visitors profess that they’ve come in peace, their ulterior motives slowly become clear. The cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.

The series got off to a strong start in November with a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 14.3 million total viewers. At the time, it was the highest rated debut of the 2009-10 season. Unfortunately, a large percentage of those viewers didn’t return for the second week. Episode two brought in a 3.8 rating and 10.7 million.

Week three dropped yet again, to a 3.1 in the demo and 9.26 million viewers. Thankfully, the ratings decline evened off from there. Unfortunately, due to some backstage issues, ABC put the show on hiatus for several months.

Are you glad that V has been renewed?

When V returned, the show’s ratings were understandably lower than they had been. Still, the drop could have been far worse than it was — attracting a 2.8 in the demo and 7.03 million viewers. The numbers later slipped to a low of a 1.9 rating and 4.87 million.

But now, in the final weeks of the season, V is starting to show a little growth. Last week’s brought a 2.1 and 5.37 million. This week attracted a 2.3 and 5.69 million. These increases seem to mirror the growth in its lead-in’s viewership (Lost) but they are increases nonetheless.

While it would seem that ABC should realistically cancel V, the network has a tradition of showing some faith in one or two struggling programs each year. It would seem that V is one of those shows. According to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum, ABC has renewed V for a second season of 13 episodes.

Will this gamble pay off? ABC has had mixed results in the past. Samantha Who? didn’t work out while Castle has grown nicely. With an ongoing sci-fi storyline, V isn’t exactly the type of show that’s inviting to new viewers. Perhaps the network has a plan. Time will tell.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that V has been renewed for season two? Are you surprised? What would you do to boost viewership?

I think the series is great. I can’t believe people aren’t just completely addicted as am I. I was disappointed terribly when I thought that the last episode I saw: Anna’s eggs blasted… turned out to be the finale?

Marketing is key. Marketing marketing marketing. If money were no object, I’d be advertising pieces of the show during other prime-time shows… kind of “what happens next?” I might also advertise the television show… in movie theaters.

I did not watch last season at all… But, I just watched ALL of season 1 in 2 days! I loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! And I WILL be watching next season on tv! We need to get the ratings up so it will be back, or when this is over, more shows like it! I am VERY thankful there will be another season!

I love this show…I really think, as stated previously, that marketing is key. I had not even heard of the show when I stumbled on it one night during a channel surfing session. It was just luck that it was the first episode. I think with better marketing it would do better. I’m sure it would do better if there were add on stations like SyFy or anything that targets a certain audience.

I like the show, and am glad it will continue for at LEAST one more season. The season finale rocked and even got the attention of some of my friends who previously showed no interest in the show. I think more seasons will come to succeed if they put in less mystery and more human vs alien action…which seems to be where the last episode left us.

Love the show!!! My daughter and I purchased the pilot on a whim from iTunes then had to purchase the rest up to “You Can’t Win” to catch up. It’s now our tradition to watch V from my iPad. Also love the ABC player app that allows us to play them!!!

I enjoyed every episode as this series combined sci-fi with regular human interactions. Glad that ABNC will continue this series for another season. Thank you!!

please keep this series going. Don’t let us get drawn into another one like Sarah Connor Chronicles and then only to be dissapointed after an initial exciting premier season. We love this series and are only sad not to have seen it when it first aired but promise to have in our que for the 2nd and following seasons…..’top of our que’!

This show is awesome!!! It was so hard to wait all those months after the first 3 or 4 episodes, but well worth it! The series in the 80s was amazing and I think they did a great job of mixing some of the old show with new and updated things to make this new one great. Can’t wait for season 2!
PS Logan/Tyler is the BEST!!!

I really think it would be a complete shame that because of money or whatever this ‘V’serie should be cancelled. There are people, a lot around the world who think ‘V’ should continue.
