It’s time to say goodbye to Weeds. The Mary-Louise Parker series has been cancelled by Showtime. The upcoming eighth season, which premieres next month, will be the show’s last.
The announcement doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Weeds’ future was looking uncertain before the show was renewed for season eight and many suspected that the upcoming 13 installments would be the TV series’ last.
Showtime entertainment president David Nevins tells EW, “There were two shows, Weeds and Dexter, that really got Showtime taken seriously for cutting-edge original programming… How they get brought home is really important. In this case, both for the sake of the two women behind the show [series creator Jenji Kohan and Golden Globe-winning star Mary-Louise Parker] and an audience that’s really invested in the show. TV fans love nothing better than to complain about how shows end and we really want to end this one the right way.”
Kohan says that she’s sad about the show coming to a close but appreciates the opportunity to wrap things up. She hasn’t decided how to end the series just yet, saying, “We wrack our brains every year for crazy cliffhangers and we’re trying to figure out how to top ourselves.”
She noted, “I’m so proud of what we do here and that it’s about a strong woman lead who’s really flawed… We get to do comedy right up against drama, which a lot of shows don’t get the opportunity to do.”
The final season of Weeds premieres on Sunday, July 1st, at 10pm. The assassination attempt cliffhanger will quickly be resolved and there will be a time jump and a return to the suburbs. What happens after that remains to be seen.
What do you think? Will you be sad to see Weeds go or has the series already been on too long?

I hope they bring it back! Honestly, its the only show worth watching on TV.
I seriously cried when I found out that this was the last season. I love mary she’s awesome and Nancy was a very good character for her, I’m sad to see it go but I’m anxious to see what mary Louise Parker will do next cuz I kinda liked her in the movie “Red.
Weeds, hands down, was the best show I ever watched, EVER. I am very sad to see the cast go, it almost brings me to tears. I have developed such a personal relationship with each character that I don’t ever want the show to end. Other shows don’t make an attachment like Weeds had. I think the majority of my sadness comes from the season finale. It wasn’t what I was suspecting. I want to know more about what happens, not just end it how it did. It makes me upset. I would die for a Season 9!
It’s sad to see the show go, especially when the end of the season was so confusing..I wish it did end with more answers than questions..Really sad.
I gotta say I just watched the season finale and I liked it and at the same time, I’m happy to see the show go. It had some great moments but it also had a lot of w/e moments too after the first few seasons. Time to move on
Hey everybody I am feeling your alls pain… I, too, want weeds to continue… thats why I signed the petition on facebook by liking the page “Weeds Season 9 (Showtime TV SHOW)” GO DO IT NOW!!! TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND SPREAD THE WORD ..FOR WEEDS TO CONTINUE!!!!
Bad move showtime..
THIS SUCKS SHOWTIME!!!! DO NOT END THE SHOW LIKE THAT!!!! LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHAT HAPPENS WITH ANDY AND NANCY!? WHAT HAPPENS TO NANCY!!!!? MAKE A SEASON 9!!!!!!!!!!!
EAT A BIG FAT DI** SHOWTIME
I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SAD WEEDS IS OVER.
I SERIOUSLY AM DEPRESSED
SHOWTIME YOU SUCK!!!
Realistically, Weeds was the best show I’ve ever had the chance to watch. It entirely tops any show I have ever seen, literally. Removing it from Showtime will be a deleteriously bad choice considering all the viewers who tune in every week to see it, while only ordering the subscription to Showtime just for that reason. Not only will it effect the individuals who have so much of their time invested in becoming attached to the storyline, it will also effect the individuals who run Showtime. If Weeds continues to stay cancelled, that will be the sole reason for the inevitable downfall of Showtime. Creating a show that could match the ratings and viewers of Weeds is impossible, it will never happen. Bringing Weeds back for more than just season 9 will be the best decision Showtime has made since they created the show.
Thank goodness! Im so glad Weeds is finally ending! The story has sucked since season 4. Doug is obviously going nowhere in life, and its not even drama anymore. The story line is painful to watch. Andy is boring to watch. And “Strange” botwin and Silas are getting old. And to top it off, Nancy is just a boring whore.
I almost feel entirely the same way. It just got “tired” you know? Everything was really getting blah
