101 Ways to Leave a Game Show: Another ABC Game Show; Cancel or Keep It?

101 Ways to Leave a Game Show cancel season twoABC recently finished airing yet another game show in primetime, 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show. How did this one measure up? Will it be back for a second season or will it be cancelled and never heard from again?

101 Ways to Leave a Game Show features contestants matching wits with one another to try to win a $50,000 prize. In the main game, players must answer multiple choice questions in which there are several correct answers and one incorrect one. (A preliminary question determines the order in which people can respond.) The person who chooses the wrong answer is ejected from the game in a spectacular fashion (pulled off a dock by a speedboat, ejected from a speeding train, etc.)

The final round is staged on a platform that’s 100 feet above water. In this case, only one multiple choice answer is correct and the winner takes the cash. The others hit the water in a big way.

The game show is based on a UK series with a similar name, 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow. The American version debuted on ABC with a 1.9 rating in the prized 18-49 demographic and 5.57 million viewers. It was second in its timeslot (beaten by NBC’s The Voice) and outperformed repeats on the other networks.

While almost all shows lose viewers in their first couple airings, Game Show maintained its demo number. In weeks four, five, and six however, Game Show saw its numbers dwindle down to a 1.4 in the demo and 4.4 million viewers. The six episodes of season one ended up averaging a 1.7 demo and 4.92 million viewers.

Currently, Game Show is the network’s lowest averaging reality/game show of the summer but the numbers aren’t that bad. It easily outperformed ABC’s two import dramas (Rookie Blue and Combat Hospital) and did better than Shark Tank which aired during the regular season and was renewed for season three.

ABC has some other reality/game shows for this summer so their decision on whether to renew or cancel Game Show will have a lot to do with how well the other shows perform. As it stands now, it looks like Game Show has a good chance at coming back. If it is renewed, executive producer Matt Kunitz has indicated that they plan to make at least 12 more installments.

But, what do you think? Did you enjoy 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show? Should it be canceled or renewed for a second season?
