12 Monkeys: Syfy Showrunner Planning on Season Three and Beyond

12 Monkeys TV show on Syfy: season 2 (canceled or renewed?)

Season two of 12 Monkeys officially premieres next week. But showrunner Terry Matalas recently told Blastr there are more seasons planned for the Syfy drama.

The time-travel series is based on the 1995 film of the same name. It stars Aaron Stanford, Amanda Schull, Emily Hampshire, Barbara Sukowa, Kirk Acevedo, and Noah Bean.

In the interview, Matalas said season two is where the series will comes into its own:

It’s a lot more fun. In a lot of ways, it’s almost like Season 1 is the prequel to Season 2. Things really starts to get going, and we’re moving through time in ways we weren’t able to in Season 1. We’re able to mix and match characters and really try new things. The stakes are higher, and it’s a lot more fun. The show really finds itself in Season 2.”

He added that they do know how the series will end, but it will take multiple seasons:

I think we can do it in about 17 seasons. That’s a joke [laughs]. Yes, we do have a full map of what the series is. It is multiple seasons, and you definitely wouldn’t be satisfied at the end of Season 2, or Season 3. It’s a multiple season thing and we do know how it will end.”

Season two of 12 Monkeys premieres April 18th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

What do you think? Do you watch 12 Monkeys? How many seasons would you like it to go?
