24: Legacy TV show on FOX: canceled no season 2

Last month we reported there would be no second season of the 24: Legacy TV show, at least “for now.” Now FOX has confirmed that 24: Legacy is cancelled. On the bright side, though, there is talk that 24 TV series franchise may continue as an anthology or event series.

24: Legacy starred Corey Hawkins as Eric Carter, an Army Ranger who becomes the target of a terrorist organization. The FOX cast also included Miranda Otto, Jimmy Smits, Teddy Sears, Dan Bucatinsky, Anna Diop, Ashley Thomas, Charlie Hofheimer, Coral Pena, and Sheila Vand.

Deadline reports:

We have seen the last 24: Legacy but maybe not the last of the 24 franchise. Fox has opted not to renew the latest installment in the 24 franchise for a second season. Meanwhile, the network, producing studio 20th TV and producers Howard Gordon and Brian Grazer are exploring a potential new, more anthological/event series 24 incarnation.

Last month, Fox delayed renewal decision on the series until after the upfronts with the explanation that, because Hawkins is on Broadway in Six Degrees of Separation, his “schedule [did not] allow consideration for the fall,” Fox chairman Gary Newman said.

At the upfronts, Fox execs said that they wanted to sit down with Gordon to see where the franchise perhaps could go next. Talks are continuing, possibly with new incarnations that each features new storylines and characters.

24: Legacy A Look at the Ratings

24: Legacy premiered as quite the ratings sensation with its post-Super Bowl debut. However, the numbers soon fell. Overall, season one averaged a 1.40 rating in the 18-49 demo and 5.124 million viewers. While they seems high for a cancelled show, those averages are skewed by the huge series premiere, which drew 17.576 million viewers. Compare that to the season finale in April, when only 3.423 million tuned in.
