You can expect at least one familiar face on 24: Legacy. Recently, executive producer Manny Coto spoke to EW about the return of Tony Almeida on FOX’s upcoming reboot series.
Almeida, played by Carlos Bernard, appeared in the original 24 series. The reboot stars Corey Hawkins as Eric Carter, a soldier who returns to the U.S. from the Middle East and finds himself trying to prevent a massive terrorist attack. The cast also includes Ashley Thomas, Miranda Otto, Teddy Sears, Anna Diop, Tiffany Hines, and Jimmy Smits.
Speaking to EW, Coto revealed Tony’s “dark past” will affect a new character:
Tony’s dark past comes back to haunt Rebecca (Otto) in some way. What’s fun about it is that it’s not just, ‘Hey, I’m Tony Almeida.’ There’s a previous relationship — not necessarily a romantic relationship — with one of our characters.”
The EP later added:
He seemed to be a character we hadn’t seen in a while and we thought at a certain point in the season — after the season had gotten its own legs and was off running — that it would be fun to bring in someone from the old seasons.
We think what’s going to attract people to this show is first, this fantastic actor [Hawkins], who is one our leads and Miranda Otto, and the story and plot, which kicks off like a rocket with this charismatic cast. Hopefully, Tony Almeida and whatever else we throw at it will be icing on the cake.”
24: Legacy premieres on FOX on February 5th after the Super Bowl.
