24: Movie Script Dead; Howard Gordon Not Involved

When it was announced that 24 was coming to an end, fans of the series could take some solace in the knowledge that a 24 movie was in the works. We later learned that the movie wasn’t actually a “done deal.” Now, seven months after we said goodbye to Jack Bauer, Chloe O’Brien, and the rest, we don’t seem to be any closer to seeing a 24 movie on the big screen.

In a recent interview, series writer/executive producer Howard Gordon said that the script that had been in the works has been shot down and, as of now, he’s not involved with the project.

AX: What’s going on with the movie?

GORDON: The movie is something that right now I’m not engaged or involved in. The rumors are that [director] Tony Scott has an idea that he is going to run it by or has run it by Kiefer Sutherland. I don’t know what the status of it is.

AX: Wasn’t there a Billy Ray script turned in?

GORDON: There was a script, but ultimately it wasn’t the right proposition. It wasn’t strong enough or compelling enough to the studio obviously to move ahead with it.

AX: So that version is dead?

GORDON: Yes.

AX: Did the movie take the conceit of the real-time hook or was it more broader based?

GORDON: It was more broader based and international.

What do you think? Do you think the 24 movie will ever get made? Is it a bad sign that Gordon isn’t involved?
