24: New Version of FOX TV Show Being Developed

The 24 franchise might not be dead yet. Deadline reports FOX is developing another reboot of the TV series.

Earlier this year, FOX launched 24: Legacy, a spin-off of the original action series. Unfortunately, the show never managed the success of its predecessor and was cancelled after just one season. The original 24 series starred Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer. The drama lasted for nine seasons before ending in 2010, followed by a brief revival in 2014.

Now, FOX says they’re willing to give 24 another chance. At this summer’s TCA press conference, FOX chairman Dana Walden said the network is working with the creators of the show on another reboot:

We are really exploring what the future, the next version of 24 might be, maybe in more anthological storytelling. …  I think that partly what is exciting is, we’re opening up the possibility of it being anything where that 24-hour clock is at the most critical period of a story, so I don’t want to limit them. It can only be an action-oriented show, maybe not. It can only be an emotional thing. The opportunity is for them to think their biggest thoughts.”

FOX Entertainment chief David Madden added that the new series might not be set at the CTU:

The same kind of ticking clock format and apply it to something else. It will have the same urgency but may not be set in the CTU, it will have same style and urgency but in a different venue.”

What do you think? Are you a fan of 24 and/or 24: Legacy? Would you watch another reboot?
