If Baldwin does end up leaving, NBC and show execs say that his decision will not cause 30 Rock to end. The network wants to keep the show around for at least one more season to add more episodes for greater profits in syndication.
Lorne Michaels, executive producer of 30 Rock, said, “I would hope he would want to go on but we’re going to keep doing the show.” Michaels isn’t upset with Baldwin however. He announced that the actor will host the premiere of Saturday Night Live’s upcoming season. This will be the 16th time that Baldwin’s hosted, a record number.
Bob Greenblatt, NBC’s entertainment chairman, said, “I’d love nothing more than to have Alec for the duration of the show. That’s my goal. Let’s see what we get.”
The sixth season of 30 Rock has been delayed until mid-season, at least in part because of Tina Fey’s pregnancy. Greenblatt couldn’t promise that the comedy would return to the Thursday night schedule but the executive producer has other ideas. Michaels confidently said that, “The show will be back on Thursdays.”
What do you think? Should 30 Rock continue without Alec Baldwin?
