TV show description:      
A documentary news program that has undergone several changes in format. The series was named after a 1986 CBS News documentary about the drug crisis in American neighborhoods, 48 Hours on Crack Street. Like that original program, 48 Hours initially focused on events that occurred within a 48 hour time-span.

The series began as a half-hour broadcast called 48 Hours that was anchored by Dan Rather. In 2002, the Leslie Stahl took over hosting duties and the name changed to 48 Hours Investigates. In 2004, the series title changed to 48 Hours Mystery. Episodes focus on a single topic or court case and is narrated by a single reporter. The program currently focuses on real-life mysteries and crime stories.
