Rooney spent more than 60 years writing at CBS. He worked for his first three decades at the network behind the camera as a writer and producer. He then became a television personality, a role Rooney said that he was never comfortable in. Preferring to be known as a writer, Rooney authored several best-selling books and wrote a syndicated newspaper column, in addition to writing and delivering his 60 Minutes pieces.
On October 2nd, Rooney delivered his 1,097th essay for 60 Minutes and said that he would no longer be appearing regularly.
Jeff Fager, chairman of CBS News and the executive producer of 60 Minutes, said, “It’s a sad day at 60 Minutes and for everybody here at CBS News. It’s hard to imagine not having Andy around. He loved his life and he lived it on his own terms. We will miss him very much.”
What do you think? How will you remember Andy Rooney? Have you ever read his column or books?
