Adventure Time is taking to the high seas. Today, Cartoon Network announced a new mini-series, Adventure Time: Islands, will premiere in January.
Created by Pendleton Ward, the animated series follows the adventures of a boy named Finn and his dog, Jake. The voice cast includes Jeremy Shada, John DiMaggio, Hynden Walch, and Niki Yang. Earlier this year, Cartoon Network announced the series will end in 2018 after nine seasons.
The eight-part mini-series will see Finn, Jake, BMO, and Susan Strong “leave the Land of Ooo to embark on a quest of epic proportions across the ocean and into new lands – encountering new creatures, discovering new islands and using teamwork along the way.”
The special debuts on January 30th. But fans can catch Adventure Time: Islands early on DVD and digital releases on January 24th.

Cartoon Network’s Emmy and Peabody Award-winning Adventure Time returns this January with Adventure Time: Islands, an eight-part journey into Finn the Human’s mysterious past beginning Monday, Jan. 30 and concluding Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. (ET, PT) on Cartoon Network. The four-night special event will answer one of the series’ most-asked questions: What happened to the humans?
But first, fans can see Islands on DVD, iTunes, Amazon Video and Google Play ahead of its linear premiere. All eight episodes plus exclusive new content including animatics, an art gallery and song demos will be available on Tuesday, Jan. 24 for the suggested retail price of $14.97.

Adventure Time: Islands comes on the heels of Adventure Time: Stakes, the series’ first eight-part mini-series following Marceline the Vampire Queen. Stakes debuted on Cartoon Network in November 2015 to phenomenal success, ranking as the #1 program in its time period with all key kids and boys audiences. Adventure Time storyboard artist Tom Herpich was also awarded an Emmy in 2016 for Stakes’ conclusion, “The Dark Cloud.”
Cartoon Network’s original animated series, Adventure Time, has received numerous entertainment award citations, including six Emmys (12 nominations), the prestigious Peabody Award and BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Award. In 2015, Adventure Time won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short-format Animated Program and won for the episode “Jake The Brick.” Adventure Time is created by Pendleton Ward and produced at Cartoon Network Studios.
