Out of Africa: TV Series Being Developed Based on Book

Out of Africa TV show: (canceled or renewed?)

Out of Africa may be coming to the small screen. Deadline reports Heyday Television is developing a new TV series based on the classic book.

Written by Karen Blixen, the memoir “recounts the seventeen years that Blixen spent in the Ngong Hills of Kenya during the last decades of the British Empire as she searched to find her role and voice in a changing world.” In 1985, the book was adapted as a film starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. The movie went on to win seven Academy Awards, including the one for Best Picture.

Filmmaker Susanne Bier is slated to direct and executive produce the TV series adaptation alongside Heyday Television’s David Heyman.

From Bier:

Karen Blixen defied the male-dominated world at every turn. Despite heavy resistance, she single-handedly ran her farm in Africa. She felt a greater kinship with the indigenous Kenyan population than any of her class peers. She both found and lost the love for which she had always longed. This opportunity to engage with her enduring legacy is a great challenge and even greater privilege.”

What do you think? Have you read or seen the film Out of Africa? Would you watch the TV series?
