Episode 102 — Funny, We Shrunk the Adults
The Chipmunks test Simon’s new shrink ray but it doesn’t work and instead causes a big mess. Dave wants them to clean up before he returns and invites the new neighbors over.

Alvin sees the new and cute neighbor girl, Dena, from the upstairs window and forces Simon and Theodore to accompany him with a homemade “welcome wagon.” To show off, Alvin invites Dena and her bothers, Tariq and Ali, to play at their house and they practically destroy the place.

Dave and Zelda, the neighbors’ elderly babysitter, are accidentally shrunken on the Seville front steps and have no way to tell the Chipmunks what’s happened. They work their way inside to find a way to reverse the process. After awhile, Simon notices that the invention was turned on and finds the miniature groceries.

While Alvin cleans up the mess, he admits to Dena that he wasn’t really being honest about all they’re allowed to do. The two clean up (narrowly missing Dave and Zelda) while the others search for the miniaturized adults. Simon mounts a mini-camera on a beetle that eventually finds them.

Alvin tries to negotiate before Dave’s returned to normal size but to no avail. He ends up with a two week grounding.
First aired: December 1, 1990.

What happened next?
Since the end of the series, the characters have starred in three direct-to-video features.

In Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein (1999), the trio are making a movie at Majestic Studios. They meet the real Dr. Frankenstein who, believing that the park’s castle isn’t scary enough, decides to make a new monster.

In Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman (2000), Alvin suspects that their new neighbor is a werewolf. Theodore is bitten by a dog of some kind and begins to act like a were-puppy. They must find a way to cure him before the next full moon or the transformation will become a werewolf for good.

In Little Alvin and the Mini-Munks (2005), the characters are brought to life via a combination of CGI graphics and puppetry. The Chipmunks and Chipettes visit a friend of Dave’s, Lalu, in her magical cottage.

In 2007, the characters began starring in live-action movies, though they don’t necessarily look or sound much like their former animated selves.
