Stephen Spielberg’s Amazing Stories was a fantasy/sci-fi anthology, that ran on NBC for 45 episodes, over two seasons, before being cancelled in 1987. NBC has put a revival of the series in development and tapped the now-cancelled Hannibal‘s Bryan Fuller to executive produce and pen the pilot. Coincidentally (not at all), full episodes of the original series are available for streaming at NBC.com.
Fans of cancelled series like FOX‘s Wonderfalls, ABC‘s Pushing Daisies, and Showtime‘s Dead Like Me, already associate Fuller with fantastical, fabulous, and far-fetched fiction. Before those series, Fuller wrote for the syndicated Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and UPN‘s Star Trek: Voyager. He also wrote for and co-executive produced the first iteration of NBC’s Heroes, the revival of which — Heroes Reborn — is currently struggling in the ratings.

The 1985 original ran for two seasons and was created and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, who we’re hearing is not involved in the reboot. The series earned 12 Emmy nominations and received five awards.
Amazing Stories will be produced by Universal Television with Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank (Under the Dome, Extant) serving as executive producers along with Fuller.
This will mark Fuller’s first series project for NBC since the acclaimed Hannibal, which ran for three seasons and concluded this summer. Fuller is also showrunning the upcoming Starz fantasy series American Gods, based on Neil Gaiman’s novel.
