Amazon Considers Ending Their Public Pilot Season

Are more changes headed for Amazon? Deadline reports the streaming service is considering ending their public pilot season.

For five years now, Amazon has released their pilots for public viewing before making a decision on which new pilots to order as a series. However, this feature may be ending soon.

According to Deadline, Amazon is considering making some or all of their future pilots private. The change would be one of many for the streaming service. Recently, Amazon Studios head Roy Price resigned amid allegations of sexual harassment.

Before Price left, he did say Amazon was thinking about pulling their public pilot season, saying it wasn’t practical:

The reality of the marketplace is it’s competitive and often you just have to go to series. We still have customer feedback, but will probably have fewer pilots for sure.”

If Prime Video does end their current pilot season strategy, the streaming service will consider new series like other networks, with executives making decisions based on testing and research. Though, with Price gone and a new fall pilot season underway, it’s unclear where Amazon stands at the moment.

What do you think? Do you subscribe to Amazon Prime? Do you participate in their pilot seasons?
