American Idol: Final Season’s Summer Tour Cancelled

American Idol TV show on FOX: canceled

Sorry, American Idol fans. According to Billboard, the series’ final summer tour has officially been cancelled.

Launched in 2002, the summer tour typically consists of finalists from the most recent season of the FOX singing series.

In a statement, parent company CORE media explained the cancellation by saying they prefer to end American Idol with next week’s live finale:

The American Idol Live Tour has historically been an integral part of celebrating the seasons’ contestants and also garnering excitement for summer auditions for the upcoming season. This year’s Idol finale celebrates the past 15 seasons, the amazingly talented participants, and the millions of fans who’ve helped make American Idol the legendary program and brand it is today. It will be so memorable and meaningful and we’ve chosen to end it on that note.”

Earlier, we reported that Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood will perform during the finale. Additionally, the series’ original judges—Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Simon Cowell—may reunite one final time.

American Idol’s three-night finale begins on April 5th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
