We don’t have to worry about American Ninja Warrior being a winner in the ratings game this year. NBC has already renewed the reality competition for a 12th season for Summer 2020. Still, even renewals can be cancelled these days. Will American Ninja Warrior keep making the grade? Stay tuned.
Hosted by Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, and sideline reporter Zuri Hall, American Ninja Warrior is based on the Japanese series, Sasuke. The NBC TV show is a high-octane obstacle course competition that follows contestants in both city qualifying and city finals rounds. Contestants who complete the finals course in their area move on to the national finals round. In season 11, the show visits Los Angeles, Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Seattle/Tacoma, shooting indoors for the first time at the famed Tacoma Dome. At stake is a grand prize of $1,000,000.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The 10th season of American Ninja Warrior on NBC averaged a 1.07 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.08 million total viewers.

Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
