Although the ratings dropped significantly in seasons two, three, and four, don’t worry about this spy saga being cancelled too soon. FX renewed The Americans TV show not just for season five, but also for a sixth and final season, back in May of 2016. Will the numbers continue to fall in season five, or will some of the audience return? Stay tuned.
A 1980s KGB espionage drama on the FX cable channel, The Americans stars Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Holly Taylor, Keidrich Sellati, Noah Emmerich, Lev Gorn, Costa Ronin, and Brandon J. Dirden. This TV series revolves around the lives and secret work of Elizabeth (Russell) and Philip Jennings (Rhys) — two Soviet KGB officers posing as a married American couple in the Washington, DC suburbs. Since teen daughter Paige (Taylor) learned of their true identities, it has been even harder for Philip and Elizabeth to maintain their cover. As a result, their family’s safety will grow even more tenuous in season five. With the Cold War raging, expect paranoia on both sides to reach new heights, making Philip and Elizabeth’s work increasingly vital – and even more perilous.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

For comparisons: The fourth season of The Americans averaged a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an average total audience of 909,000 viewers.
Cable ratings are typically released within a day or so of the show’s airing, except for in the case of weekends and holidays. They are sometimes harder to come by so there may be occasional delays or gaps.
