Season five of The Americans just ended, but what’s going to happen next? Recently, showrunners Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming final season of the FX TV series.
Set in the 1980s, the drama stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as two Soviet KGB officers posing as a married American couple in the Washington, DC suburbs. The cast also includes Holly Taylor, Keidrich Sellati, Noah Emmerich, Lev Gorn, Costa Ronin, and Brandon J. Dirden.
In the interview, Fields revealed that the final season of The Americans is already planned:
We have 10 outlines written scene-by-scene in detail, and we are in the process of doing what we call our season review now, where we take all of our stories and define every storyline and rewrite and rewrite. Soon, we’ll start turning in the scripts.”
And what are those plans? Fields did tease that marriage and family will be a “big part” of the sixth and final season:
What we can say is, as always, what we’ve most wanted to explore on this show are the human relationships and the marriage and family story. For sure, that’s going to be a big part of the final season.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Americans? What do you hope happens in the FX series’ final season?
