Aquarius: NBC TV Show Cancelled; No Season Three

Aquarius TV show on NBC: canceled, no season threeThough the show’s creator had a five year plan, there won’t even be a third season for the Charles Manson drama on NBC. The network has cancelled low-rated period drama Aquarius.

Set in 1960s Los Angeles, Aquarius, revolves around the generational conflict between an experienced homicide detective (David Duchovny) and an idealistic undercover vice cop (Grey Damon). The rest of the cast includes Gethin Anthony, Emma Dumont, Claire Holt, Michaela McManus, Brian F. O’Byrne, Chance Kelly, Cameron Deane Stewart, and Madison Beaty.

The summer series represented a bit of an experiment for the peacock network. They released the entire first season online prior to its broadcast premiere. NBC started airing the episodes on television and then renewed it for a second season.

The network didn’t release the second season online ahead of its broadcast run but the ratings didn’t improve. On regular television, season one averaged a 0.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.79 million total viewers. Season two averaged a 0.34 rating with 1.76 million.

With such low ratings, the cancellation isn’t a surprise. During the TCA summer press tour, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke was asked about the chances of the network renewing Aquarius for season three and she said, “I think that’s tough.”

The final two episodes of Aquarius, titled ” Mother Nature’s Son” and “I Will”, aired on Saturday, September 10th.

What do you think? Do you like the Aquarius TV show? Do you think that NBC should have cancelled it or renewed the series for a third season?
