As Told by Ginger: Nickelodeon Series Revival Rumored

As Told by Ginger TV show on Nickelodeon: revival rumor

Ginger should tell us, herself. MoviePilot.com reported that Nickelodeon is reviving the animated As Told by Ginger TV series. The story claimed to have been an exclusive with Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon Group President for Content Development and Production, and Chris Viscardi, Senior Vice President, Content Development at Nickelodeon Franchise Properties.

UPDATE: We are sorry to report that, per Nick, there is no validity to this rumor.

Although widely circulated and seemingly legitimate, MoviePilot.com has taken down the original piece. It quotes Hicks as saying, “Kids who grew up on these characters are now of the age that they are having kids and families themselves.” Reportedly, series creator Emily Kapnek is on board as EP. It is possible MoviePilot.com published, ahead of the getting the green light from Nick. It is also possible it is a hoax.

From the article no longer on MoviePilot.com:

Russell Hicks and Chris Viscardi exclusively told MoviePilot that Nickelodeon in working on an As Told By Ginger revival with the original creator Emily Kapnek on board, the show will focus [sic] be a continuation after the events of The Wedding Frame, when the gang is in high school and will focus on the ups and down on the life of Ginger Foutley.

The new series will be mainly aimed at Nickelodeon’s current audience and it may have some tweaks to keep the show relevant “You have to remember people who are going to watch really don’t have a recollection of ‘As Told By Ginger,’” he added. “You have to make it relevant to them but also nod to the audience that is going to be interested.”

The series will be produced [sic] not be made by Klasky-Csupo who made shows such as Rugrats, Aaagh Real Monsters and The Wild Thornberrys, but will be done in house at Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, California, Emily Kapnek will serve as Executive Producer and will supervise a team of writers to write out scripts or episodes and approve stages of the episode production.

The words “be produced” at the top of the last paragraph, above, look like they were accidentally left in, after some rewording. The rest of the paragraph makes it clear that Nickelodeon Animation Studios will make this As Told by Ginger revival, assuming it goes ahead.

Do you remember the original As Told by Ginger TV show? What do you think about the revival picking up with the characters in high school? Sound off, in the comments
