Atlanta: FX Picks Up New Comedy from Donald Glover

Donald Glover

Donald Glover’s coming back to the small screen. The Community star and rapper has just sold a new half-hour comedy Atlanta to FX for a 10-episode order, Variety reports.

The show, which Glover will create, executive produce, and star in, follows two cousins and their rise in the Atlanta hip hop scene. The story is semi-autobiographical. Glover was raised in Georgia and over the past few years has established himself as a rapper, releasing two albums and multiple mixtapes under the stagename Childish Gambino.

Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Lee Stanfield and Zazie Beetz are also set to star, with Hiro Murai to direct. The projected airdate is sometime in 2016.

From FX Executive Nick Grad, Atlanta draws on Donald’s considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique, Grad said. "The story is made all the more powerful by the great cast and the contributions of Donald’s fellow Executive Producer Paul Simms and director Hiro Murai. We can’t wait to for the debut of Atlanta next year."
