Atlanta: New FX Series Ordered, to Debut in Summer

Atlanta

In October, we reported that FX had ordered a new series titled Atlanta from Donald Glover. Now, it’s been reported that the series has been ordered to series and will debut this summer.

Created by Glover, Atlanta follows a young man trying to navigate the Atlanta rap scene with his cousin.

At the winter TCA press tour, Glover said the series won’t be optimistic like Netflix’s Master of None:

I feel like the important thing with this show is to make it personal. I’m not an optimistic guy. I feel like you watch Master of None and it’s a very optimistic look at millennialism, [but] I’m pessimistic about it. I feel like we kind of fucked up.”

Glover himself is a rapper, writing and performing under the name Childish Gambino. During the press meeting, he added that the series will be as realistic as possible, even if that means using the n-word:

That’s how people talk. Trying to pretend people don’t talk like that, it’s kind of silly. … It’s hard to be real on television. You’re constantly being kind of taken out of television. From there being an emblem at the bottom telling you you’re watching television or a rating in the corner or people not being able to say ‘n*gger.'”

The series has been ordered for 10 episodes and will star Keith Stanfield in addition to Glover.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Donald Glover? Will you watch Atlanta?
