Jerry Doyle, an actor known for his portrayal of Michael Garibaldi on Babylon 5, has died at the age of 60, Deadline reports.
Doyle also hosted a nationally syndicated talk show, The Jerry Doyle Show, on Talk Radio Network.
Surprisingly, the actor didn’t get his start in television until his mid-30s. Born in Brooklyn in 1956, Doyle received a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautics and went on to pursue a career as a jet pilot and a Wall Street stockbroker.
In the early ’90s, Doyle moved to Los Angeles and got his first TV role on Moonlighting as the brother of Bruce Willis’ David Addison. From there, he went on to star in the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful before landing the role of Garibaldi on Babylon 5.
Created by Michael Straczynski, the sci-fi series depicted the human and alien staff of a space station. The cast also included Michael O’Hare, Bruce Boxleitner, Claudia Christian, Mira Fulan and Stephen Furst.
After the series ended in 1998, Doyle went on to appear in several shows, including JAG and NYPD Blue.
